Painting Challenge: Haldir

Yet I do not believe that the world about us will ever again be as it was of old, or the light of the Sun as it was aforetime. Forging of Fates Tournaments 2010 (US)
Posted on Mon Jan 25, 2010 8:19 pm by Erunion
Preliminaries on February 6th
Semifinals on March 6th
Finals on April 10th
'Ard Boyz Tournaments are a three-part, competitive series of events hosted by Independant Retailers across North America. Unlike the traditional tournament format you may be familiar with, that takes into consideration your painting and sportsmanship, the 'Ard Boyz Tournaments focus on one thing and one thing only; how well you play the game! These tournaments are the place to field that nasty list you felt guilty about playing, or that massive horde army you couldn't hope to paint it in time.
Warhammer and Warhammer 40k have the 'Ard Boyz tournaments to determine the hardest players in the US and now The Lord of The Rings has answered with... War of The Ring, Forging of Fates.
In all respects the Forging of Fates are just as competetive as its 40K and Warhammer cousins but with the added twist of being first of its kind that centers around The Lord of The Rings universe.
Think you can take the prize? Once again, you'll have to PROVE IT!
Fight your way through the locals in the Preliminaries on February 6th. This round will be held at Independent Retailers all over the country.
Players who end up in the top three will be invited to the Semifinals held in select locations on March 6th. The winner of the Semifinal will get a 2,000 point army of the race of their choice and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive generous online vouchers for our Web Store. These top three Semifinalists will be eligible to attend the Finals, which will be held on April 10th.
At the main event, players will compete for buckets of prizes, but more importantly, they will fight for the right to call themselves Champion. So who will be the best this year? Can you marshall your forces to claim the title of War of The Ring Champion in 2010?
For more information, see the GW website...

New Models available for Advanced Order
Posted on Mon Jan 18, 2010 4:08 pm by Erunion
The Ringwraiths, or Nazgūl, were once the Kings of Men, the bearers of the magical rings created by Sauron. Their rings granted endless life but gradually enslaved the Kings to Saurons will. Together with their leader, the Witch-king of Angmar, they are known as the Nine and are the most deadly of Sauron's servants.
This box set contains one multi-part plastic Winged Nazgūl. This 31-piece kit can be assembled as either a Ringwraith mounted on a Fell Beast and includes two different Ringwraith head and weapon-arm variants, or as the Witch-king mounted on armoured Fell Beast. Model supplied with a 60mm round, scenic base.
Thrydan Wolfsbane is the first true warchief of Dunland in centuries. A giant of a man, he leads through brute force rather than deftness of tongue and blade, yet he has shown cunning enough to forge an alliance with Saruman.
This blister contains two finely-detailed metal miniatures: one Thrydan Wolfsbane mounted on horseback and one Thrydan Wolfsbane on foot. Models supplied with 40mm round and 25mm round bases respectively.
Saruman the White is the leader of the Order of Wizards and the most learned in the ways of the Enemy. But his studies have led him to dream of domination and he has seen many dark things that have stirred his greed and ambition. Now he would dare rise and take even Sauron's crown, but the truth is that his soul is already in thrall to the evil lord.
This blister contains one finely-detailed metal Saruman the White on horseback. Model supplied with a 40mm round base.
Grimbold of Grimslade is one of Rohan's foremost captains, a doughty warrior whose strong right arm and stalwart leadership has turned the course of many a battle. Grimbold and his warriors hail from the west of Rohan, where the blood of Helm Hammerhand still flows true, and lends strength to every strike.
This blister contains one metal Grimbold miniature. Model supplied with a 25mm round base.
The Helmingas are led by one of Rohan's foremost captains, Grimbold of Grimslade. And like their stalwart leader they hail from the west of Rohan, where the blood of Helm Hammerhand still flows true, and lends strength to every strike.
This blister contains two metal miniatures: one Rohan Hornblower and one Rohan Banner Bearer whose banner has sculpted Rohirrim detailing. Models supplied with 25mm round bases.
Éomer is the bravest and most gallant of all the Captains of Rohan - a realm under constant threat from the foul Orcs, Uruk-hai and Wild Men under the leadership of Saruman.
This blister contains one finely-detailed metal Éomer on horseback. Model supplied with a 40mm round base....

Painting Challenge: Nazgūl

Painting Challenge: Nazgūl
The Silmarillion, 'Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age' wrote:
"Those who used the Nine Rings became mighty in their day, kings, sorcerers, and warriors of old. They obtained glory and great wealth, yet it turned to their undoing. They had, as it seemed, unending life, yet life became unendurable to them. They could walk, if they would, unseen by all eyes in this world beneath the sun, and they could see things in worlds invisible to mortal men; but too often they beheld only the phantoms and delusions of Sauron. And one by one, sooner or later, according to their native strength and to the good or evil of their wills in the beginning, they fell under the thraldom of the ring that they bore and of the domination of the One which was Sauron's. And they became forever invisible save to him that wore the Ruling Ring, and they entered into the realm of shadows. The Nazgūl were they, the Ringwraiths, the Ulairi, the Enemy's most terrible servants; darkness went with them, and they cried with the voices of death."
Greetings, and welcome to the first Painting Challenge of 2010, featuring the Dark Lord's most dreaded servants, the Nazgūl. Guidelines for the challenge are as follows:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Painting Challenge Guidelines
1. A miniature will be selected prior to the beginning of each Painting Challenge. Although it is not required, it is strongly suggested that you paint the chosen miniature, although some accommodation is allowed.

1. One of the Nazgūl on foot (generic or named versions)
2. One of the Nazgūl mounted on either a Dark Steed or Fell Beast
3. Twilight Ringwraith
4. Evil miniature featuring dark robes and armor (e.g. Morgul Stalkers, Castellans of Dol Guldur, the Necromancer, the Mouth of Sauron, Black Nśmenóreans, Morgul Knights)
2. Miniatures may not be painted at the beginning of the Paint-Off (assembled and undercoated is fine), and each participant should show proof of this status.

Now, get your cameras and paintbrushes ready, because this is going to be a lot of fun.
Edit: I am being a little relaxed on the rules in the December Challenge, because it was the first one. However, for this Challenge, you will not be eligible to win without photographic proof of the miniature's unpainted status, so please grab a quick snapshot before you get started!...

Posted on Tue Oct 27, 2009 3:44 pm by MacGothmog
Andrea miniatures new releases for November will include a new Silver paint set, similar in concept to the previous Flesh, Black, White, Red and Blue paint sets. The idea is to allow hobbyists great results with minimum colour mixing.
This set will include three metallic paints (Steel, Silver, ...) and three Inks (Brown, Black and what looks like a dark blue). Should sell for about the same price as the other sets (around 16 euros)....

New Citadel Mega Paint Set on Advance Order
Posted on Wed Oct 07, 2009 4:24 pm by tirno.alyanorno
The new paint set is up for advance order (as you could probably tell from the link you clicked to get to this page). It offers a pretty good saving - you essentially pay for the paint and get the rest free - and by "the rest" I mean quite a lot: you get a figure case, the ten brushes, basing stuff and some PVA glue. It does seem like a pretty good deal, but not something most of us would buy as we have a lot of the paints already. I can see that it would be good to someone just getting into the hobby, or else getting back after a long absence though.

TLA Update
Posted on Mon Sep 07, 2009 10:31 am by hithero
Sorry, it's bad news as the host has deleted all the TLA files, so TLA as we all know it has gone, pics, articles - everything. There are three options.
1) If Mithaeron has a back up, Dagolad has kindly offered to try and piece it together and get it back online and then hand it over.
2) The other option is for anybody with the ability to start over again.
3) Nothing.
What do TLA members think?
Personally I do not have the time or ability for number two, UKRocky and some others could put a team together and build a new site so that could be a goer.
Dave...
