Using piercing for mail it is best to work from top to bottom and pierce up ward and try to get a stepped pattern like bricks. That way the swiggle of putty left really looks good. Wow, I sort of feel honoured that you use one of my conversions to try to explain something about sculpting to ukfreddybear himself. I consider ukfreddybear a much, much better sculptor than myself.
Anyway, I think you're giving me too much credits. I'm not overly fond with that chain mail, most parts were just too stretched I think. Also, I think the holes in my chainmail are too big. Ukfreddybear's holes are closer to actual chain mail on this scale.

Anyway, back on topic: I think the chain mail coifs look great, and especially on the left one the chain mail looks very realistic from what can be seen in the picture.
