It's an article to try and inspire people who don't play LotR. Surely that's a good thing?
If more people play LotR it gives us all more people to play and talk with; it means increased LotR sales which means more money is likely to be spent on new kits for LotR.
Which has got to be good!

Yeah, seriously, anything likely to recruit more players - especially SBG players - is worth having imo

true, im curious how much mileage we are going to get out of this though, the movies going to give us what 2 good years maybe 4? and if they are back to making money Id guess 5 years of releases and back to its decay again. After the Hobbit thats officially it for movie plugs

Unless PJ decides to make the Silmarillion into a film next or something. And even then GW would still need the rights to that. As for the lasting life of the franchise, god knows how long it's got until it becomes stale.

Slightly necromantized thread here, but...

I crunched the numbers at some point and concluded that the Hobbit book as written will probably get you a year worth of releases - with most of those releases front loaded around the Christmas when the movie comes out.

Since there are two movies, I suspect that gives you two years worth of releases, again front loading the bigger deal elements in the winter of the movie's release. Then you get another year's worth of filling in the gaps releases, much as we later got things like more Citadel Guard.

Considering that the movies open up yet another opportunity for "penumbra" releases - things that might vaguely fit into the Hobbit world and might be worth selling (Woodmen archers, maybe), I'm going to go ahead and claim that The Hobbit movies will give GW three solid years of releases.

The more immediate issue is that there are two years at the very least until the first movie comes out. Wonder what will happen between then and now?

They'll probably start throwing some more bits of Frodo and Sam in the works and hope they come out with different hobbits. My guess is that they'll try and make us as anticipatory as possible by stuffing us full of pre-film merchandise in the months before it, follow with decent stuff and spend the rest of the year selling us junk.

They have mostly used up their ideas for this; though we might get some Giants or something.

There are things in LoME that were never released as I'm sure your all aware of. Perhaps we'll see some of that? Giants would be great, there are some Ent heroes too that I can't remember the name of now

I agree. Just an idea, but maybe they could make plastic hobbits or something.

Or, apparently, resin Hobbits. :)

Still, I'd like to see more Hobbits, oddly enough. Such a range would just be for collectors, but it would be nice anyway.

i would love it if they sculpted each of the named dwarfs from the hobbit as well, if they did that would be great
would also love to see a box with all the companions in (slightly like the fellowship of the ring box but hopefully with more stuff, cast in resin and at a better price0
and maybe an eagle box, multi part plastic and great quality hopefully
but maybe im asking for too much
oh well

I can't imagine they wouldn't do the armies in the battle of the five armies. Which means a whole new set of models for the Iron Hills, Dale and Mirkwood. I can't imagine PJ not giving the wood elves some new and fantastic look, probably even armour and shields, which will make the old models and profiles obsolete...
