The key problem is that the movies are 10 years old, and in business terms that's an age. It's pretty clear that the GW strategy was tied in to the release of the Hobbit movies sometime around 2009-2010. Because that didn't happen, there's not enough of a return from the current sets to finance investment in new troops. Unlike Warhammer they can't just produce a new book, three sets of figures and hey presto. Everything in the GW LOTR universe is stalled util the new flicks come out.

I disagree with certain parts of what you said, aelfwine. I think that GW realizes that all-metal armies are never going to be as popular as armies that can be built with cheap plastic troops. They have stated as much when talking about WHFB and 40K, and they have moved to having at least the core troops and most of the elites being plastic kits. Thus, I don't think that they need to see large amounts of sales of metal models to produce a plastic set. However, your assessment of their market research and cost/benefit analysis is spot on. Hopefully, GW will see that people are willing to purchase large armies (especially with WotR) if it is financially feasible.

Well the gist is that generally GW will turns guaranteed sellers into plastic first; less guaranteed sellers go metal (and elites, who naturally will shift less). If the metal does extra well, then it gets considered for plastic.

The other problem is, right now, that a lot of minis producers are hurting, badly. Metal prices have shot up; so too have plastic prices. Recently WOTC finally cancelled their high selling, but also unprofitable Dungeons and Dragons minis line. Same problem: materials. (I expect, when GW sort out their QA on the finecast, lots of other companies will be following suit with some sort of resin models)

Anyway, its all a round about way of saying: I'll be dead surprised if we end up with plastic Khand, but less so if we end up with a one last plastic hurrah centred on the TLA or something equally obvious. (Also, know what would be just lovely, if said plastics were on the scale of the Rangers of Gondor and Easterlings, so they don't look hilariously stupid beside their metal kin)

I'd rather TLA box remained as it is for my Spectres, I don't wanmt to have to buy 3 boxes for a 4 company formation, when I could buy 2 boxes instead.

Easterling Dragon Knights and Dunland Bezerkers would be better, but SBG people who aren't in WOTR book will nnever be released.

The only releases I've been wrong about when guessing so far was the order in which the monsters of middle earth would be released

A lot of of those "newly introduced" model costs in Legions of Middle-earth were taken from the designer's posterior region and put there just in case one day, one day far far away, GW would run out of interesting movie or novel units that would sell, and happened to have a bunch of sculptors sitting around doing nothing and some weird potential demand for them.

In other words, likely never.

I think its pretty safe to say that lots of those minor units will never, ever see the light of day. If they do see the light of day, it will be pure coincidence. Example: Floi is in the Legions book. As a Dwarf captain. Represented by a Dwarf King. What is he in the Reinforcements release? Something else entirely. When Dunland got its "reinforcement" it was a named hero no one had ever heard of before. Ditto the Misty Mountains.

So, LOME is not entirely useful as a guide as to what should come next, or what might come next, or even what might be faintly desirable to come next.

...So in other words, Matthew ward has actually lied through his teeth when he said in the 'Legions of Massed Errata' FAQ that models in the book that weren't in the existing range of LOTR were to be released in the future...wow. Not that I am of the same opinion, but I can see why so many on here have become disappointed with GW's overall approach to LOTR.

The world will come to an end in the future. Nope. Not lying. It really will happen. Sometime. 8)

I see that as an opportunity to create them myself. If by coincidence they appear, I will buy them. If I like them better than my creations.

What date was on that errata? MW could very well have planned to oversee the release all those models, but GW decided to do a massed-combat game (War of The Ring) and the SBG fell by the wayside. Mat Ward didn't lie, his bosses just changed their plans.

It was probably sort of true at the time. Or at least highly aspirational. Plans change.

Really doesn't help that LOME itself a big filler release: here's 20,000 words and some pictures, many of whom you've seen before. You should totally go buy it.

In fairness, the LOME "lists" remained true until WOTR came about - both the Gondor in Flames and Ruin of Arnor book include the new listed models.
