August's WD has a decent tactical article on using cavalry in SBG. They promise an article each month on SBG unit tactics...so SBG ain't dead, and perhaps they're working towards *eventually* releasing something. Here's hoping...

They also released a new warhammer terrain kit, Gardens of Morr. I'm almost finished the ruined tower kit which, after shaving all the skulls and other stupid paraphernalia, is going to look great with the same colour scheme as the ruins of osgiliath. This new Gardens kit looks like it has some useable parts...again it will require skull-shaving, spike removal, and a bunch of other adjustments, but it might be suitable for as mordor terrain.

I'd love to see an osgiliath dome piece that fits the existing osgiliath kit.

I like Gardens of Morr. I may get a second for my Halloween game. I did not like the plastic tower. I think ordering the blocks from the link below is more cost effective.

The dome parts are not available as a kit but you can check the link to the directions below to find how many cast to order.
I believe it is 9 cast or $18

I like buying the molds but when I am in a hurry I often by the cast blocks. They are cheep

I love the hirst arts concept, but none of the block textures do it for me. The normal blocks are too smooth, the fieldstone...meh. The closest to what I'm after is the egyptian. Also, to be completely honest, I'm a bit intimidated by it :) I'm not crazy about the existing patterns and I'm not confident enough to strike out on my own. Maybe I'm overthinking it. And maybe if my workspace was a bit bigger than 5'x5' I'd have more room to experiment while working on other things...

I'm glad that they made an article that had real tactics rather than revealling total obvious things.

Probably a little. Painting the blocks is a bit different but nothing you can't handle.
I posted the photo of the frame on your other post. I am concerned there are too many skulls to remove.

I'm totally with you on "paraphernalia removal". Warhammer is way too "D&D" for me... I like the LotR game because the miniatures look realistic and there isn't a lot of skulls, spikes, chains and other nonsense in it.

When it comes to GW and releasing SBG (and by extension any LOTR, such as WOTR), there are no good signs.

Excellent! I may actually pick up this WD. I used to subscribe to the magazine, but let it run out because of the increase in price coupled with less interesting material. I do miss reading it, though, as it was often very inspiring and I would occasionally pick up a new painting technique or terrain tip.

As for Hirst Arts, I’ve been tempted to give them a try on more than one occasion, but it seems like the start-up costs would be a little high and storage space is always at a premium. That said, I’ve seen some beautiful terrain made with the blocks.

the cavalry tactics seems a greatt sign. however i am not sure how many different types of sbg figures they will cover. it could cover anything from 3 months of white dwarf up to nearly a year.
still, it's a good sign for the future. :-D

The guy at Games Workshop in Blackpool told me that Project X, the release before this Christmas is likely to be related to the Hobbit.

I really hope for new releases this year, if no other reason it will give us all something to talk about!

How could it be the Hobbit? I can't imagine they would be releasing models based on the movie before the movie is viewable...talk about killing the surprise. Beornings, new wood elves, men of Dale...all will have to wait. A sourcebook with some scenarios might be nice...eventually...but again, if they're based on the movies, or like the current journeybooks have alternate versions for movie or book, then the movie plots are revealed. Ain't gonna happen.

If the Hobbit is a new game, I'm not interested. Traipsing through mirkwood with a bunch of dwarves might be fun a couple of times, but will get old very quickly. New characters are nice I suppose, but need to fit into SBG (I don't care for WotR).

I'm waiting for Sept 22 (Bilbo's birthday). If we don't see anything then, I won't expect anything for LotR until the movies are released, and I don't expect I'll ever get my high elf revamp, or plastic Khand.
