I have to agree with what everyone else has said. Its great to see another report from you and I'm even more excited to see what the next scenario is like. I'm hoping that the Good side can pull out another victory and start to turn the tides against Sauron!

From now on, I am hoping to play and publish a new scenario every month, somewhere around the start of each month. So the next one will hopefully be in the first week of February. At that rate, I should complete the campaign this year. It's hard to believe I've almost finished The Two Towers, just one year after starting this whole adventure! I'm very much looking forward to the Return of the King parts of the campaign.

Dave is right that the pictures blown up a bit more, look amazing. It is a real shame they display smaller on your website. With that said, this is another fantastic report and the scale of each scenario you're playing lately is seriously impressive. Can't wait to see the next scenario :)

This is another fantastic report and a really interesting scenario to boot. The pictures above look awesome and I can't wait to see the big battles that are coming up. I'm rooting for the good side to make a surprise rally and save Middle Earth :)

Great writeup for a tense scenario. I liked that you used the new Ent profiles, as their Bludgeon special rule seems to solve the problems they face otherwise face when confronted by scads of Isengarders.

Nice job on the dam, too. I've held off revisiting the new Last March of the Ents scenarios -- which I'm otherwise quite interested in -- through inability to get around to making one myself.

@Dave, the dam was actually surprisingly easy and quick to make!

I'll post a few work in progress pics I made before I painted it:

Basically it consists of three parts, the dam itself and two mountains. This way it's quite easy to store (you can stack them all together or just put them on top of other things) and I can use the mountain parts in other custom scenarios as well, either standing vertically as in the photo or horizontally (for more movement space).

I didn't use all three parts in this campaign, because the magazine only suggested the Dam. Though I do think it looks better with the mountains on the side, which is suggested in the newer versions of this scenario such as in War in Rohan. Also it looks cool with more than 2 Ents. So I really want to play that version of the scenario as well, though I'm waiting for models for Quickbeam and Beechbone. I'd also need to build the tower of Orthanc. I think it would be a great looking scenario on the tabletop and based on the play of this, a fun one. I also really loved your playthroughs of this scenario with multiple Ents, it looks mighty impressive!

As for the Dam and surrounding mountains, I think you could get it done in two or three evenings (one for building, one or two for painting). Overall cost would probably be about $10,- in materials. I only used cheap EPS boards found in almost any hardware store, wood glue, a few long screws to help stick some parts of EPS stick together, a bit of texturing paint for the mountains and then a finer one for the stone blocks on the dam, cheap acrylic black paint as a ground layer of paint, then mixed with some cheap acrylic white paint to create a grey colour and then finally some Agrax Earthshade for the rocks on the Dam to give it a more weathered look (used less than half a bottle I think).

In the past I used a thermal cutting saw for the EPS, but the wire constantly broke and got stuck so these days I just use a regular bread knife (which is no longer used for consumption). It may be rough and sometimes things break, but it's very fast and works well enough for me. The only thing with EPS is that of course it gives quite a mess, but with a vacuum cleaner that's not too much of a problem.

I was really quite surprised how easy and quick this was to build. After the layers of texturing and acrylic paints, it has also become quite sturdy making it much easier to store.

Building it in parts is a great idea. You could even re-use the mountains for a Forbidden Pool using a different center piece, or have them on a Moria board for extra color.

I can't think I could get it done as quickly as you did. Everything seems to take me forever. :)

All very interesting stuff. I loved the custom Shelob's Lair terrain, and this seems like another case where the BGiME version of a scenario seems more colorful and thematic than the "official" versions in the journeybooks.

Escape from Osgiliath looked fun, too. At one point I was going to make the tiles for this scenario out of Hirst Arts blocks. But it was just too much work and I quickly abandoned the idea. Your pragmatic approach for a one-shot scenario seems smarter.

Another batch of excellent reports! They may have been small scenarios but they were big on narrative and theme. Congrats on the new website, it looks great and I think people are going to really enjoy visiting it for years to come :yay:

I feel like less thought and care has gone into the Return of the King part of the BGiME campaign than the other two. It's a bit anti-climatic the next scenario is already the Siege of Minas Tirith / Battle of Pelennor Fields, only 2 scenarios in... Though I did enjoy those two scenarios and am of course looking forward to finally playing the big battle. Just need to paint a lot of models first, so it may take me some time before I can play it.

Just a quick update, since it has now almost been a full year since the last one.

I am still very much dedicated to finishing this campaign. Most of the work is already done, I only need to build the gatehouse of Minas Tirith and then paint Minas Tirith. For the gatehouse I am waiting on a tutorial by Zorpazorp, since I used his templates for the walls and towers already and am really happy with them.

Regardless since I'll be moving house soon it'll likely still be 2-3 months before I get to continue work on the campaign. But I am definitely planning on finishing the campaign this year, it will then have taken me 3 years which seems like a nice fit for 3 films/books.

I've made a little teaser / trailer with the stuff I already have (almost) ready:

Amazing stuff - Some of these scenarios are definitely more interesting than their equivalents in the Journey Books.

Are the walls you are using for Helm's Deep the Renedra castle walls?
