I thought I'd dip my toe into War for Rohan. Everyone else is, too, so I thought I'd take a maybe-unusual angle and take the scenarios in increasing order of size. This helps me in a couple of ways; the first scenarios are Dunlending heavy and I don't have any of them and, with GW in slow-motion mode, it's going to be a while before I have them ready. Second, it should minimize the down-time between scenarios.

So I began with The White Wizard, which uses only three models:

This is a one-off mini game not using the usual SBG rules. Drop on by if you'd like to see how it goes.

What was the relationship between the Battle Games in Middle Earth magazines and GW? I noticed the magazines were copyrighted by New Line Cinema and labeled DeAgostini/Games Workshop.

I agree with you, the game in the magazine was much nicer than the one in War in Rohan.

I have no idea of the potential licensing issues. It would be weirdly one-sided if the magazine had access to GW's figures but GW couldn't use material from the magazine (which ultimately derives from GW's intellectual property, after all). But I suppose it's possible.

Or maybe The Powers That Be just didn't like it, or didn't consider it.

Great to see another report from you, Dave. I haven't played one of these minigame scenarios yet and it was interesting to read your thoughts on it. I'm not entirely sold on them bringing the narrative to life but it seems like they aren't going anywhere so I'll just have to accept them. I really liked the format of the battle report as it made it really easy to follow who was doing well and who wasn't. I'll be curious to see where you go next. More Rohan at War, perhaps?

Thanks, Kuribo. I like the idea of the minigames, and for this particular one there's little luck involved so one has no dice to blame if one loses (*ahem*). Like the regular scenarios, I imagine some will be more interesting than others. More to come....
