My ever-so-slow run through War in Rohan continues with The First Battle of the Fords of Isen.

At this rate I'm never going to finish before the two new announced books come out. :o

Drop on by if you like this sort of thing. Mild spoiler: I thought this turned out pretty well.

Nice battle report! I was surprised at the number of orcs that wanted to swim, just never thought of them as being the swimming type :D Seems to me that the ford should be bigger than 6" wide, but that might change the dynamics of the game too much.

Thanks, Mapper!

The 6" ford width is per scenario spec, but I agree that it doesn't match the book lore very well, which talks about an eyot. If memory serves, the War of the Ring scenario matched the terrain better.

Having so many models swim may have been a mistake. It makes sense to send across the Warg Riders, since (due to their +1 modifier for being mounted) they can't drown. But the other troops are more vulnerable, the shield-bearers especially (-1 modifier).

On the other hand, it became clear fairly early that Evil wasn't going to be able cross through the ford, so they had to do something to get those dozen models over the water.

Also, though I didn't keep track of stats, it felt like Evil was a shade unlucky on the Swim Tests. Getting two '1's back to back was certainly memorable.

Indeed a nice battle report, it seems like a fun scenario to play!

I like your river a lot and the painted models look very good as well! A lot of these models are needed in other War in Rohan scenario I believe, so that is already increasing your return on investment. And a river is always useful to have. Looking forward to your other battle reports, it's fun to see each scenario getting larger because of the way you play through these scenarios.

Thanks, Voyager360! Your right in that the prep for this scenario took forever. But if you've got the models for this one, you're very close to the Second Fords of Isen -- already set up and just waiting for the playthrough.....
