erm, If i had that £10,000 just like that, I would pay off a £10,000 loan.

I guess the intent behind the question was really 'what would you do with a spare £10,000?' rather than focusing on the 'loan' part of the original post.

If I had 10K to spend (guilt free) on hobby stuff? I'd spend some of it on the more expensive models from LOTR (9 fell beasts and a Forge World dragon would be nice), but I'd use a large part of it to invest in a game called Incursion and help bring that to the market - it's a brilliant-looking game that is suffering from a lack of funds at the moment.

You'd still have the 29.7% APR to pay off...

Hmm, this site is becoming more chatboxy all the time. Some of the newer 'valued members of the community' are treating this site like it's a chatroom.

£10,000? I'd buy a car, or lots of ginger ale. But if I had to spend it on hobby-related stuff, uh, big Gondorian army. BIG army. At leats 4800 WoMT.

Gee, wonder who that was directed at...

I believe Dorth's calculations show with that amount you could buy 19200 WoMT's. That should defend Minas Tirith properly.

He could have spent it on therapy or debt avoidance counselling.

For me, loans are a no no, unless for a sensible mortgage for a house!

No such thing. Credit Crunch, banking crisis, negative equity, blah blah blah.
I could spend £10K on a mixture of IT and camera gear....

I can see your point, Chris, but I disagree. It is possible to have a sensible mortgage. That is, it is well within the means of one employed person to pay it off easily. Of course that means buying at a good time (which I think is what you were alluding to - now not being one) and a modestly sized house rather than a mansion!

I would spend £10,000 on gliding lessons. Well, some of it.

Unfortunatly that's illegal, it doesn't have heroes to lead it, that's even more

the real participants:

[spoiler][quote=Wikipedia]

Sauron's army from Minas Morgul, led by the Witch-king of Angmar (chief of the Nazgûl or Ringwraiths) greatly outnumbered the combined armies of Gondor and its allies. Sauron's forces included Southrons of Harad (or Haradrim), who brought elephantine beasts called mûmakil (or Oliphaunts), Easterlings from Rhûn and Variags from Khand, as well as great numbers of Orcs and Trolls. Tolkien describes the army as the greatest to issue from that vale since the days of Isildur's might, no host so fell and strong in arms had yet assailed the fords of Anduin; and yet it was but one and not the greatest of the hosts that Mordor now sent forth.[2]

The defenders' numbers were considerably less. Tolkien writes that Faramir was outnumbered by ten times at Osgiliath, where he lost one third of his men.[1] Tolkien also gives a catalogue of companies from outlying provinces of Gondor, totalling somewhat less than 3,000 soldiers, that came to the aid of Minas Tirith.[3] Prominent among them was a 700-strong contingent[1][4][3] led by Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, Denethor's brother-in-law. The total contingent of allies was smaller than expected since Gondor's coastal towns were being attacked by the Corsairs of Umbar.[3][4]

A 6,000-strong cavalry army from Rohan, Gondor's ally,[5] arrived at dawn the next day - whereupon the battle proper began. The Men of Rohan (Rohirrim) were thrice outnumbered by the Haradrim alone.[6]

Reinforcements from the coastal towns of Gondor later sailed on Corsair ships to the city.[4] They had been relieved and were now led by Aragorn, a man with a claim to the throne of Gondor due to his descent from the Kings of Arnor. He also led a small force[7] of Rangers of the North, representing Arnor.[6]
