I moved this into the General Discussion forum, since the 'Site Polls' one is for "official" site polls.

So if you want to make this into a real poll Zilegil, by all means go ahead.

I prefer high-point soldiers which actually progress in their butchery. Low-point models who fail their fighting or are too weak to get good chances on the roll aren't that appealing to me.

Therefor my project to make a Khazad-Guard/Iron Guard army.

Dependant on the situation.

High point models will tend to have better stats, and so, are generally more resilient, or better at what they do, whilst low point models have the advantage in strength of numbers.

I'm the kinda guy who goes into a fury whenever I lose a single casualty though, so... 6 as the absolute lowest defense on the shock-troops fits me in any situation!

Maybe table-top gaming isn't the hobby for you...

Hehe, I spent about 3 years trying to make an army for WH40K which would be the ultimate thingy to kill any kind of oponent without losing a single soldier... xD

I usually prefer high points. Started off with dwarves until my opponent got tired of rolling sixes. Now I've started with goblins and it is fun in a different way. The spears are really paying off though.

Thats just what I mean. You can tell from the avatar/race/realm that I like goblins :gollum:  and I have started orcs. I find them more versatile and generally stronger than goblins.
:orc: I'm a hord army all the way!!!

I perfer a mix of the two, cause a high pointed man when he dies is more of a loss, but the extra numbers from the lower pointed models keep you in the game.

playing a game against hithros woodelf force i lost 8 out of 10 orcs with sheild to a single round of throwing daggers, but if it would of been urk-hai it would of hurt a lot more.

A balance of forces is the way to go, like beanerboy has suggested though I would take it to another level of consideration.

The points value must be considered against the actual and relative ability of the mini, whether it be a humble hobbit, an angry uruk, or the Scorekeeper-in-Chief, Master Gimli. Actual ability is what the stats for any mini say they can do. Relative ability is how any given mini measures up against one or more opponents, so for instance, you could reasonably expect Gimli to beat an individual goblin, but he may not fare so well against 12 of them, or a Mordor Troll... you get the picture?
If your opponent has piled everything into a mounted force, they may have fewer minis but they have far greater manouvrability, and may be able to exploit that to bring more favourable odds to bear in each actual fight, picking off your units one by one....

So don't think solely of how many points or Mights or whatever you can get for any given overall points limit - think about how you can best use the forces available. Play to your strengths and you opponents weaknesses.

But one or two bad rolls of the dice and even the most capable army with the most cunning plan can come badly unstuck... :-X

Three goblins [5pts so thats 15] can easily kill one spectre [15pts] but I think that 6 spetres can kill 18 goblins. There "Fey Song" special rule can
controll movement of the goblins. If you use goblins vs uruks without heros and "Battle To End All Battle" game special rule [in WD it means that nobody flees] the goblins
will always
WIN!

So it depends on what minis, terrain and points.
