If you are buying a pumpkin or winter squash, remember to look for a good stem to use as a stump/fantasy tree.

The craft store Michael's has started displaying Lemax Christmas Village stuff so if you want a 18"by36" battle mat for Osgiliath or Minas Tirith streets, they now have the large pebble mat in stock (never pay full price, always get a coupon) The large pebble mat will require painting or if you want brick streets, they also have that.

Interesting tip on the pumpkin stem, does it need some sort of prepwork before using?

On the topic of pumpkins, there are some seeds called putka seeds or putka pods that you can get (eg. on ebay) that look just like miniature pumpkins if you want to model a field of pumpkins for Farmer Maggot or something!

Mr. Gimli - Usually the top of the stems are a little bit open, I seal them with a little bit of greenstuff or something similar, or I just glue some flock or tuffs into them. The bottom I might sand to even it out and then I just glue it down. If you are worried about them, give it a pva wash to help seal them.

Looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with it. Should be able to snap the top close to the stem, and shave the soft part down to the hard stem, where you can even it out.
