@Feanorthenoldor
Like this one as a Black Numenorean captain.

Do you have the scale of these miniatures?

here ya go.

I compare a GW elf to the Dark Sword mini shown in my WIP.

Also, I forgot to look at the George RR Martin collection from Dark Sword, some of them look nice.

Most of them aren't perfect, more specifically the beards some of them have, but I think I can sand that off.

Alright, the elves fit. They just happen to be 6'5", makes them more lordly and in first age men and elves were supposedly taller.

Renly sculpt would make a nice elf king.

The 9 or so Dark Sword mini's I posted are the main figures in all of their ranges that "could" fit in my armies.

The main reason I said could is because I am still not sure on the idea of making all of my main characters from Dark Sword mini's.

I think that I will stick with just using four main Dark Sword miniatures within the army. First being the fingolfin model I already have, the three other characters would be his three sons, Turgon, Fingon, and Argon.

I was thinking of using DS mini's for the various leaders of the Houses of Gondolin, but I think that would look weird with different looking miniatures all around. Instead, if I just use 4 or so, it wouldn't look weird, if that makes sense.

Going through the Thunderbolt miniatures line, I can't believed I missed this one, but this one just screams for a Feanor proxy.

The facial expression, and the pose is so aggressive, which would be perfect to portray feanor.

I just ordered King Arthur and Merlyon from Thunderbolt not to long ago to be an Easterling Champion, and Blue Wizard.

nice, if you can take a comparison pic, that would be awesome. Still curious about thunderbolt mini's.

I have a bunch of Thunderbolt Elves. They are a bit taller and very slender compared to GW sculpts. I have the entire, earlier sculpted, Elven line including cavalry.

I don't think that you could mix these in with GW sculpts.
You could use them all together, as an Elven clan or Second Age Elves.
Don't misunderstand me here. These are excellent sculpts and would be an excellent choice for your projects.
They just don't mix with GW. in my opinion.
Perhaps you'll see it differently.

yeah, I've seen some other comparison pics online and they seem a little different compared to the GW models. I'm not really planning on intermingling them with the GW elves, but I will be having them represent another army alongside the GW ones.

I wonder if that would look ok. We shall see.

Anyone know of any sources to find just heads?

For example, I know ebob makes these heads, which I quite like, and am thinking of swapping them with Dol-Amroth knights.

I was thinking of using the Perry Bro's War of the Roses archers as alternatives to Blackroot Vale archers.

For reference: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0309/8 ... 1397662143

My question is: does anyone know a heroic looking mini that matches the look of these figures that can be used as Duinhir?

Fire Forge minis will be releasing their medieval Russians. Their town militia will be great Lake Town militia. I love the old man and the fat guy, so characterful. Also, I think they are 1/4 the price each of the LT militia. If you lose the base, they are 100% scale compatible with our minis! Win all around!

I have their horsemen and love them! They got the Numenorean cavalry conversion that is floating around. Their footmen will likely get ebob heads to become KoDA, since I don't like the huge wings and mine face Haradrim in the desert and would die in plate mail from heat exhaustion. The Mongols could make great Khandish proxies also. My next conversion will be barded horses with old school KoMT riders and capes to be Citadel Guard Mounted.

Northstar has a multipart plastic kit of goblins on the way. I think they'll make nice orcs: http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=11301

Post subject:  Re: The OR Miniature Alternative Thread

It’s been a while since this thread got an update and a number of quite suitable models come out since. I thought I’d add some of the ones that I was aware of.

Antediluvian Miniatures
The Wars of the Bruce’s some medium to well armored Scottish pikemen that would do for a more book themed version of Dol Amroth Pikemen.
https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2018/02/07/shop-historical-range/

V&V Miniatures
The 28mm Viking Range has two decent proxies for Gorulf Iornskin
https://vminiatures.com/28-mm/vikings/berserk-1
https://vminiatures.com/28-mm/vikings/viking4-1

And one decent proxy for Frida Tallspear
https://vminiatures.com/28-mm/vikings/woman-warrior-7
It also has a group of female Vikings that could be useful for battle companies characters
https://vminiatures.com/28-mm/vikings/viking4-1

The 28mm Byzantium range’s Byzantine Kontaratoi could make for effective, if alternatively armored, Anornian warriors since the GW models is OOP at present.
https://vminiatures.com/28-mm/byzantium/byzantine-kontaratoi

Wargames Atlantic
The Classical Fantasy range has a box of plastic giant spiders that can finish both Hobbit and LOTR era giant spider proxies
https://wargamesatlantic.com/collections/all/products/giant-spiders?variant=31822691926114

Fireforge Games
The Forgotten Worlds range as a box of plastic Folk Rabble that would work for either straight Lake-Town Militia proxies or as a box to get parts from for making something with a bit more organized/Middle Earth vibe.
https://fireforge-games.com/northern-kingdom/370-folk-rabble.html

Alternatively, the Historic range offers Russian City Militia Archers and City Militia Spearmen that could fill the same role as Lake-Town Militia with a less English/French aesthetic.
https://fireforge-games.com/medieval-russians/286-city-militia-spearmen.html
https://fireforge-games.com/medieval-russians/287-city-militia-archers.html

Also, in case my posting this inspires anyone else to add some of their favorite proxy models from recent years to the thread as well, I wanted to provide a link to the Forum's third-party knockoffs/copyright infringing models policy. http://one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32255 Please look this over before posting any links to keep our site hosts free from the dangers of defending legal action in UK courts.
