Hi guys,

Just wondered if any of you could post some pictures of your palace guard for inspiration. Im looking to complete my Mirkwood hobbit force and apart from another unit of rangers all i need is a set of palace guard.

Any pictures with the colours used would be awesome! (Looking to keep somewhat to the GW colour scheme).

Josh

You can check out the GBHL YouTube page and search for Damian's Hobby VLOG...he's recently done a really nice job on a batch of Palace Guards, and he even shows which colors he that used for each individual step - it's really helpful :)

Thanks for the kind words ja33 - very much appreciated!

I don't have any pics of my Palace Guard but you can get a good look at them in the VLOG below, the Palace Guard stuff beings at about 9:20 and runs to about the 20 minute mark. I went with a Battle of Five Armies gold and red colour scheme rather than the GW one but you might find it of some use.

If you like the colour scheme and want to see it in more detail then you can also check out the VLOG below, it's a stage by stage breakdown of how I painted my armoured Mirkwood force, the VLOG deals with the Mirkwood Elves but it's exactly the same colour scheme I used for my Palace Guard.

Hope that helps, good luck and I look forward to seeing yours!

Apologies for the bad lighting. Thought id post a few pictures up myself. Will keep this thread updated with the Palace Guard progress. Really want to bring this force to a tournament next year.... Maybe with the addition of Beorn for some fluff.

They look great, lovely colours, very consistent and I really like your painting style 8)

You'll have fun with that force at a tournament, Tauriel's awesome and great fun to use, just hurl her into anything and watch her carve through the enemy! I took Beorn to a recent tournament and he was absolutely awesome, such a cool model/profile to use and see on the table.

Cheers Dr Grant. I ended up using GW's lahiam medium for the first time and it worked well for layering up the green and browns on the rangers. Really helped soften the transition between the tones and gave a nice blended look!

Ive heard some stories about Tauriel. Really looking forward to using her at some point in the near future. Need to get myself to a GBHL event pronto :)

Whats Beorn like to play with? Is he worth the points value? Ive still yet to come up against him myself so any info would be greatly appreciated. I presume you'd only take him in a 700+ point game if you wanted to stand a chance haha?

I've only played against Beorn once but my troll (I think it was Bert with the special rule) managed to hold him up for a few turns by sneezing on him until he was squished in one go by an almighty bearhug

He is very expensive though so probably only worth it in all heroes or a bigger points match

As promised......

Test model for the palace guard, happy with how he turned out and should be easy to batch paint using the colour scheme chosen. Just need to matt varnish the model to dull down the lighter tones slightly. Again, apologies for the poor lighting and iphone camera being used :)

Nice colors; I like your mix a lot. :yay:
Can you tell which colors had you used?
Specially in the cloak and the chainmail.
Is posible here that is the Metalic Blue from Vallejo Model color?

Thanks
