The book Legions of Middle Earth states all of the armies which 'The Monsters of Middle Earth' can ally with and Gûlavhar is part of said army list. I am not sure if I can post the answer on the website. It might be against forum policy, like posting profiles and points costs.
Hope this clarifies things up. You should consider buying LoME, it has great scenarios, terrain generators and has every SBG army list in it (except the updated Lothlorien).
