Given the price increases at GW I have started buying more miniatures from other companies. I am also building the biggest dwarf army the world has ever seen. Here are a few of my Gamezone dwarves. I love these mini's - heaps of character.

Yup, they are. $37 for a 12 pack of warriors :)

Yeah, they are terrible. For example, a single named hero in finecast (eg Dain) can be $30-35. Only place they are worse is NZ I think.

Thanks! They are 28mm. Same height as GW dwarves, but as you can probably see much chunkier and more exaggerated hands etc. All in metal. Have another 12 or so to paint.

Nice paint job and some very characterful miniatures.

Yeah, we have got it tough in Australia and you are correct, NZ is the only country with prices higher :P

I'm also surprised those dwarfs are in the 28mm scale. I think their chunkiness deceived me into thinking they were smaller :)

Finished the dwarf general on war bear for the winter painting challenge this month. The mini is from Scibor miniatures. Fantastic detail (in resin), great quality and a joy to paint. I particularly like Scibor's dwarfs and have bought another 3 war bears and some dwarf infantry. I stuffed up the banner for this particular mini. Couldn't decide on the best colour and ended up putting too much paint on as I tried to fix mistakes. Will need to be stripped and started again. I replaced the banner with an axe from another Scibor mini.

That's superb, did the base come with it? Love the other dwarfs as well, look forward to seeing more. Good ambition, biggest Dwarf army in the world :-)

Thanks mate. Don't think you can go wrong with this mini. So much fun to paint.

Yep, base included. Complete kit comes in at about 40 Euros RRP, but I got mine for half that on Ebay. Non GW minis don't attract much attention from bidders!

I also got 3 other dwarfs on war bears to do.

At the moment I am putting together some Mantic dwarfs for painting. Looking forward to getting a batch of them done.

I have seen the Mantic Dwafs, they look really good. Even though LOTR minis are my favorite, I find its really "refreshing" to paint other companies figures.

Yeah Mantic are pretty nice. Very cheap too. Got the 80 mini box set for under $80 Australian. Detail on the plastics is OK. The torso and legs come separate and don't fit together that well meaning some green stuff is required. Minor issue. They give a few options for different torso, leg, arm, head arrangements. Looking to batch paint these guys fairly quickly. Bought some Mantic elves too - they are pretty close to GW LOTR proportions.

I agree the GW minis are great quality. It is nice to see what other companies are doing though. I just collect fantasy figures that fit the LOTR theme. I got a bunch of really nice dwarfs, elves and orcs from Reaper too. Need to paint some of them up one day.

OK finally here are some Mantic Dwarves I batch painted. I found the poses to be a bit static and the quality of the plastic casts is not up to recent GW standard. But these are a good and cheap option for bulking up armies. And it's easy to make lots of different poses with separate legs, torsos, arms, heads and weapons.

Long time. No post. Didn't John Lennon say 'Life gets in the way while you are busy making other plans'?

I haven't been completely sedentary. Thanks to inspiration from Crucium Giger I bought the Fallen Dwarf army pack. I finished the cross bows so far. I also finished 2 more units of Mantic Dwarves. Even found some sun to take the photo in. You might notice it blinding you as it reflects off one of the dwarf shields.
