Hello, fairly new to the game and have had a few matches. Would anyone be able to help with heroic actions, as I am slightly confused as to how heroic fights work. Thanks

Most heroes have access to 1 or more might. Might represents the more intangible parts of being a hero, winning a roll that might otherwise be lost or inspiring troops to heroic deeds.

Might is a limited resource that can be used over the course of the game. Heroes can use to alter dice rolls, as I'm sure you know, or calling heroic actions. You've specifically asked about the fight ones, so for now, unless you ask about the shoot and movement ones specifically i'll just stick to the fight phase.

At the start of the fight phase, players must say whether they are calling any heroics, and the other player must say if they are as well.

In combat, you can either heroic strike or heroic combat. A heroic strike works like any other combat, except that one (or both if both called a heroic strike) roll a d6 before the combat and increase their fight skill by that much for the duration of the combat. When is this useful? Well, when you're engaging that troll or ent with your orc captain and a dozen orcs, a single six means from the ent will win the fight, and likely mean a lot of dead orcs! Your orc captain will lose due to the ent/troll having the higher fight, with a heroic strike there is a chance you could roll high enough to either tie the combat or perhaps even temporarily even have the higher fight, meaning the tables have turned and now you can win the combat on a 6.

A heroic combat works a little different. A heroic combat is also called at the start of the fight but unlike a heroic strike, a heroic combat must be fought first. The reason a heroic combat must be fought first is because if the hero calling it wins the fight and kills ALL enemies in the fight (not counting enemy spear support or pikes) then all models on his side involved in the fight (again, not including friendly spear supports or pikes) get to move AND fight again.

e.g. Aragorn engages 3 orcs with a spearman supporting him. He calls a heroic fight. Aragorn wins the fight and kills all 3 orcs. Because he called a heroic fight, he may now move and fight again in this fight phase but the spearman can not. They will fight twice in the one fight phase.

Another example, a captain of Gondor and two swordsmen charge an Easterling. The captain calls a heroic fight, and slays the Easterlings. As they have killed all enemies they were fighting against, now all 3 good models may now move and fight again in this fight phase. Can be very useful to get to an enemy hiding behind their own troops, or for getting a few extra crucial kills with your hero. If the hero loses the combat, or fails to kill ALL of their opponents, it counts as a normal combat and the might point is lost

Thanks, that's really helpful! Would you be able to clarify on the shooting and moving as well? Cheers

Sure.

Heroic actions in the move phase are heroic move and heroic march. A heroic action is an out of priority move, a her declared s that they are making a heroic move (and of contested it goes to a roll off) the hero and all friendly models within 6 inches MUST move or forfeit their move. It is excellent for helping get traps, whether by swarming the enemy or by enabling your cavalry to get their pivotal charges off, or even in preventing the enemy from making their charges.

A heroic march is a way to speed up regale troops. This action does not interrupt priority, instead, the hero and all friends within 6 inches receive a bonus to movement 3 inches extra for infantry and 5 inches for cavalry. So a standard man would move 9 inches while a standard horse would move 15 inches. Models using this method of movement cannot charge, however. Please also note that this bonus is cumulative with other bonuses like uruk scouts upgraded orwar drums.

Heroic shoot is an out of priority action that allows the hero and all friends in 6 inches to shoot before the player with priority. Helpful if you feel you need to shoot before you die etc.

Heroic accuracy allows the hero and all friends within 6 inches performing a shooting attack to reroll in the way tests. Awful if you want to kill a banner at the back or take out horsemen etc
