Post subject:  Rules books?

Greetings,

I used to play LOTR strategy game when it was first released with FOTR film. I still have the FOTR rules book.

I am now considering picking this up again. However, one thing that confuses me a lot is this; what rules book should I be getting? I checked the GW website, and it seems like they have rule books for Hobbit (which is the same?) and a lot of LOTR books called 'Free Peoples' etc. I cannot see a main book?

I should also perhaps mention that I am particilarily interested in doing the War of the Ring battles outside of The Lonely Mountain, were Dain and Brand fell. I think those scenarios were in the ROTK rule book, but I cannot find that book anymore?

I would be thankful for some advice. I am sorry about my confusion.

Welcome Alhvar,

The main current rules manual is the Hobbit one (https://www.games-workshop.com/The-Hobb ... Journey-EN), although you can also get the mini one from Escape from Goblin town if you aren’t interested in the scenarios from The Hobbit.

As for recreating battles in Erebor from the War of the Ring there are currently no specific rules for the men of dale at that time. However you could use the rules for the men of Dale from the Hobbit to represent them along with the Iron Hills Dwarves and Dain. To do that you’d want The There and Back Again book.

If you wanted to use the older Dwarf models and something like Rohan or Minas Tirith to represent Dale you’d need the Free Peoples and Kingdoms of Men books.

Hope that helps
