Probably an obvious answer, but if I am in a combat that includes a generic elf and Elrond for example, would I make 4 attacks at fight 6 (the highest fight value) or 3 attacks at fight 6, and 1 attack at fight 5? Cheers!

You use the highest fight value. Keep in mind that the elf is still strength 3, while, if I remember correctly, Elrond will be strength 4. Only the fight value is shared. However, if Elrond feints, you will use the fight value of 5.
And if Elrond faints, wake him up.
Hope this helps. :)

The new rules seem to have changed a bit for spear support. If the generic elf was providing spear support, they only add a single attack at Fight 5, so you'd roll 3 attacks at Fight 6, and 1 attack at Fight 5.

Edit: now I'm comparing the Hobbit rules with the new rules...they seem the same. So I guess the spear support still counts as Fight 6 for Elrond?

The spear does add an attack at its own strength and fight value but it says on pg. 47 of the main rule book that only the highest duel result and highest fight value per side when determining the winner of multiple combats. So, for all practical purposes, a combat with Elrond and a regular warrior would see the Rivendell player role 4 dice at fight 6 to win that fight.

That makes sense, thanks!
