so i was playing yeasterday. and some orc archers where up in a building 2" tall. and since they can only shoot 18" they could'nt hit my soldiers 20" away.

i was wondering if the archers get a longer shooting distance if they are on higher ground(hill or building)

i couldnt find enything about it in my rulebook (two towers)

thanks.

I dont think so no... not completley sure though

you could do an house rule anyway you know. I think the idea sounds logically

There is no height advantage for shooting except in LoS. There is an article on house rules for archers you might want to look into in the gaming bit in Tomes of Wisdom.

i dont think they would tbh as the range probably already takes into acount the arcing flight not just straight line so as the arrow reachs the its target it reaches its maxmum effective range

Over the years I've seen many house rules here and other places on the web that seek to add more realism to the game. Although there are always areas that will make you question "Why the heck did GW do that", for the most part the SBG rules as of the One Ring/MoM rule set are really good. Not saying they are completely realistic  but rather they give a good feel for the skirmish-scale fights you see in the movies and they do it with a simple set of rules that are quick to play with minimal measurement and chart consultation. This lets you focus more on the actual PLAY ( enjoyment, tactical decisions, teasing your opponent, etc. ) and less on the mechanics.

If there's something that you and your local players are really bugged by (archery seems to be one area that is a hot button for various special rules) then by all means try to find something that makes the game for you all more fun. But in the process try not to get sucked into a downward spiral of making the game so "realistic" that it looses some of the fun.

IMHO :)

We play with a really simple rule. A man on a building get 24 inches range measured horizontally, with the tape measure level. Anyone shooting them from the ground has to measure diagonally up towards them to hit. So another man on the ground would have to be within 23'' of a 6" tower, while those on the tower can hit them measuring horizontally.
