Had a big blitz on my Nazgul.

Here are the nine. . . .

Image

And again, but mounted. . . .

Image

I created this Witchking conversion long before the official one came out. I was surprised at how similar they were, to the point where I haven't bothered buying the proper one. . .

Image

Here is Khamul on foot . . . .

Image

And Khamul mounted . . .

Image

The Witch King . . . .

Image

And the Fellbeast Riders . . . .

Image

Then I tried my hand at the Twighlight wraiths. It took me several attempts before I was happy with them. . . .

Image

And whilst I had the colours out, I also did my Barrow Wights, which I painted with a similar palette. I'm secretly quite pleased with these. . . .

Image

That's all my wraiths painted for now as I don't own any of the newer named models. I still need to do the two fellbeasts though.

Very nice Wraiths and Wrights!
I love the basing, and your own made Witch King!

On a personal and sort of off topic comment:Do you think buying the £40 box set of 9 wraiths is worth it still, or should I buy the 6 named on foot and mounted and 3 others, as I would then have each one seperately.

I didn't think they were worth it when they cost £35. What a rip off!!!

Get them elsewhere. I know a reliable ebay seller who sells them for £32.99 with free shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lord-of-the-Rings-RINGWRAITHS-nib_W0QQitemZ8739180620QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item8739180620&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I would suggest getting the named wraiths because although you're initial outlay will be higher, at least you get mounted versions with them to give your armies greater flexibility. I was fortunate in getting the nine as I got the Weathertop five when they weren't ridiculously priced and managed to get the other 4 from helpful trades here at One-Ring.

This latest batch is very nice, Dave. I'm sure you're glad to have your ringwraiths (almost) finished. I'm particularly impressed with the barrow-wights. They look smashing!

Well lets be honest, Ringwraiths aren't exactly the most challenging or time consuming models to paint - even for my average Joe standard. Riders took a bit longer because of the horses (obviously).

The Twighlight Wraiths and Barrow Wights are a good demonstration of how effective the GW washes can be over a white undercoat. I then just added a few carefully placed highlights to sharpen them up a bit.

Thanks a lot for that, I thought so too :P

And once again, compliments on the painting

You forgot the expressions of pain on their faces as they unwittingly do the splits: "...Ahh! My groin! I fell like I landed on a thin iron bar!""You're telling me! And I've got to ride a fell beast later!""I don't think I'll be able to go to Barad-Dur today, mate. My legs are stuck.""Ooh, nasty. I gotta go to the jacks."
Their problems go on and on.

Brilliant models though, as always fantastic work from UKFreddyBear. Beautiful painting (if you can call Nazgúl beautiful) as expected.

What have I been up to? Well, just before Christmas I played 700 points against TLA's Armchair General who was Moria against my Dwarves and I got a complete pasting. I went too hero heavy with Balin, Gimli, Murin and Drar and got overwhelmed with numbers basically.

Despite the looming credit crunch, Majestic Bear Miniatures had a very successful month in December, which meant more Christmas prezzies for the Freddy clan. Yay! Thanks to all those who purchased.

Christmas came and went. I didn't get any GW stuff at all for the first time in 4 years - but then I deliberately didn't ask for anything. My Missus pointed out that I have 30 box sets still unpainted, 50 blisters and a load of loose minis bought from ebay still outstanding. Point taken.

New Year - Jan 1st I painted Gandalf the Grey mounted. He was to join my Rohan force in a game against TLA's the dark rider.

Unfortunately for me, it was another dismal defeat - this time at the hands of Mordor. Again, numbers factored into this, but I can at least console myself that my Gandalf was the last model to fall.

On 3rd of January I did my Mounted Grima conversion. I took lots of WIP photos for a potential article.

On 5th Jan, I started my Emergency Fire Apppliance Driving course, which I successfully passed on 9th Jan. This means that I can now drive our Fire Trucks to Emergency situations at work. Wahey!

I then had another game with the dark rider. This time I played Evil and took my Isengard force against his 3 Ents and Wood Elves. (Treebeard and my own two Ent variations.) Although it pained me to attack my own sculpts, it was a victory for Evil. The Ents took a beating from Mounted Saruman's Sorcerous Blast despite squishing Vrasku early on beneath a thrown boulder.

I then got onto painting the Mounted Grima.

And that's about it. With some left over putty from the conversion I sculpted two heads for the statues I'm doing for PaulF's Minas Tirith. I also have 8 Mordor Trolls on the painting bench - 3 Metal and five that I got out of one Plastic Troll Kit with some ingeniouity and reproduction skills.

Incidentally, the next MBM release will be a Willow Treegiant. Yes, I know I said it would be Ash, but I've changed my mind.:p

Don't get your hopes up Sean, I haven't actually reposed any of the troll parts, just replicated them. I'll take a group photo when I get 5 mins.
