Hi all, currently I'm painting my Dwarves and Goblins for the fan made book I'm working on like some might know. Because it would be a little expensive taking different colours for my Erebor and Khazad-Dum army, I've taken a main colour: blue
as you can see the pics beneath you'll say what does he mean with two different armies when both the armies are blue, but the one got gold and the other silver? Well, the gold/blue Dwarves are for Khazad-Dum while the silver/blue are for Erebor. But.. I took the same colour sheme for my vault warden, khazad guard and iron guard. I just started so I don't have any pics of these last 2.. actually I even don't have Khazad guard.. but in the future I'll buy them^^

anyway, I'll post some pics of the minis I already painted, hope you like them (:
and for those who are wondering.. I didn't gave them a wash, I don't use GW paint so that's why :p

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/778/dsc00190rk.jpg ballista wip
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5924/dsc00175ms.jpg this one could be used for both armies since he doensn't wear the scale outfit. I also repainted the bad spots you could see.
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3618/dsc00204ze.jpg wip of Dwarf captain, From Trollbane, it's a long story.. but to make it short, this is my cousin :p we'll make rules for him and such... :p

now for the goblins I only have 2 prowlers, the rest are still a little not painted.. :p
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/7706/dsc00178.jpg will have to re-do the left guy's face
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1791/dsc00177k.jpg back

and just for fun :p

This is a nice project, and some good painted. You could try thinning down the paint, because it's always better to have several coats than one heavy. If you want the pictures of the forum just do I find it easier, but thats just my prefernces. Keep it up, look forward to seeing more.

Nice Smaug by the way, any close ups of him? 8)

hi, thanks for the nice comment, glad you like them. :D
as I mentioned before I don't use GW's paint, and that's why I can't water it down, the paint would get blurry then.. :(
and for the pictures, yes I know, but if I do the pics are way to large. I tried it but didn't turned out that good.. :p the pixels are to big and don't know how I can change this or change it on my camera since it's pretty new. :p

and if you mean smaug the purple, it was a b-day present for my girlfriend, it's not really smaug, just some purple dragon since that's her favorite colour :p but here are some pics of the diorama:
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4346/diorama1e.jpg
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/585/diorama2t.jpg
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8094/diorama3.jpg
the text on the cardboard in the front says 'happy b-day sweetheart' but I'm from Belgium, that's why it's in Dutch.
(Note for my fellow Belgians and Dutchies :p I know it's pronounced 'schat' but we call each other with a 'g' instead of 'ch' :p)

Ah no worries about the pictures, there should be a setting on the camera somewhere to tell it which size you want it.. but god knows where that will be. Some technology stuff is soo fiddely! Thats a pity you can't water them down, but they still look great. I like the dragon diorama, it looks rather good in purple. I wish I had a girlfriend who gave me presents like that! :D Nice to see some terrain too, are you a terrain 'junkie' may I ask?

Keep it up

my girlfriend was very happy when I gave the diorama to her (:
and yes.. all those buttons, god knows where to start :p but to answer your question, I do like terrain xD most of the time I'm very happy when I finished something. But at painting sometimes I think.. now what's this :p anyway I'm glad others like them. Gives me a better feeling then when I look at my minis. if others say they're good, then who am I to say they're not? :p

So I stripped my dragon (not the one on the diorama) but now I'm wondering what colour should I give him? I was wondering black or dark-grey with a silver drybrush and lighter grey wings, what do you think? (:

Is this the new cave drake we're talking about? or just a dragon in general? Maybe a picture? 8)

it's the normal dragon GW released earlier, not the cave drake :p the one I used for the diorama aswell, I had mine for a couple of months before I made the diorama for my girlfriend, so that's why I had 2 of them, but mine.. I wasn't very happy with the result, something was wrong with the paint so I had to use lots of layers, result: details were gone. so I stripped him and now I'm wondering about a nice colour..

I don't want to make it red, since that was the colour of the old one
not blue 'cause I want to give it a Moria feeling
no yellow either 'cause that doensn't seem a good colour like a dragon to me :p
I'll paint the cave drake green once I buy it so no green either
and no purple 'cause that's the colour I used for the dragon for my girlfriend diorama :p

sorry if there isn't much to choose now :p I just want to add some new experience in painting large things, so I don't want to use the same colour like I did before (:

Jorn.

Found a pic of the old model, here's the link: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4292/smaug08.jpg sorry if it's blurry, took it with my cellphone :p
but as you can see it's just one colour, and the scales are a little gone thanks to the paint..

hmm you have me stumped for what colour, unless you wanted to use a similar colour but just a completely different shade. Try using highlights on the scales, might make things look more interesting. I always tought that dragon as Smaug, which you could actually convert him into. If you've read the Hobbit he had a diamond crusted armour.

yes well I'm not very familiar with greenstuff and I don't want to make the model look silly so I'm not thinking on converting him, still thanks for the idea (:
I think I'll better wait for the Hobbit to release and buy Smaug :p
I'm still wondering about a nice colour though.. guess I'll just try someting and if I don't like it strip it again :p
but I've got time to find something, ran out of glue so no painting I guess.. xD
I might try a little piece of his leg and see how that turns out, I'll tell you how it went (:
people can always send me a picture of their dragon if they're ok with it if I steal the idea if I like it^^

how about grey or brown? They might work, or even a fleshy colour.
I hope you manage to decide and im looking forward to more pics.

thank you (:

btw, I visited the shop today, I picked up some washes and also the WD with the new rules.. those things are pretty strong :p
also, I picked me a dwarf command, the one with the captain that I'm using for From
I think they'll become part of khazad dum, since their helmets match those of the Khazad Guards.
The problem is: I don't know wich colour I'd paint the cloak of them.. any suggestions? it has to match with gold and blue :p
ps: how do I use the washes? just paint them over?

I also took a pic of the dwarf command I bought today, now I'm going to put it in word an print it of, then grab some crayons and colour it^^ so I can find a nice colour to go with khazad dum (:

I'll upload some pics of the washed guys tomorrow I guess

Hi guys, sorry it's been so long, had some internet problems :p
How are you? I'm fine, I painted the Dwarf captain a little more (the cloak) the wash gave the cloak a weird look so I had to re-do it.
Also I gave him some 'gems' on the helmet, I think it looks good, but you can't really see it on pic I guess..
