I agree, I think I prefer a more "wintery" base than a lava one.

I am not necessarily basing this themed army off of any battle that occurred in the Silmarillion. I guess I just want it to be as if the houses of the noldor assembled their forces on the Anfauglith.

The addition of ice/rock/snow on my bases should contrast nicely with the bright NMM armor I will be painting all of the elves, so it should come out nicely.

Those snowy bases are indeed very beautiful. And in Anfauglith certainly it snowed at times.

I need to find some cloaks that I can put on the back of these guys, that way it will make them feel a little bit more elven. If anyone has any ideas, please share.

If you have not already tried it I use the foil from Kenco Millicano coffee containers to make cloaks. I flatten the dimples out of the foil by rubbing it with a spoon on the kitchen worktop when SWMBO is out. Then I press the foil over a cloak of the type I want. This"former" can be on a figure or a plastic one from the spares box. The cloak is then cut out glued in place and when dry can be "sculpted" further. The figure top right with the grey plastic cloak is the one I used as the former.

Intriguing technique but looks to work very well, are they not too malleable when painted (causing shipping)?

These Blackroot Vale archers were made about a year ago and have lasted remarkably well. The foil used is quite stiff and holds its shape really well. I have used it for flags and pennants, horse armour and other similar uses.

Our Tesco and Poundworld Plus has 100g containers of the coffee for £2.50 just now.

Did you know these new Hobbit/LotR manufacturers?

Get a look here:

Yep! I knew about Unreleased miniatures and Ridgeback.

I think we should leave the discussion about them here though. According to the admins, we should try to limit discussion on these third party miniature makers.

Here's the announcement:

Thanks though!

And did you know these ones?

http://norbaminiatures.com/es/31-la-batalla-del-anillo

OK they are Teleri, so may be not exactly fit with your purposes - but may be you might consider them for the role of Nargothrond elves.

P.s. No copyright problems here, I suppose, as they declare the product for the "Battalla del Anillo", differently from the previous ones.

Hello! After about a year off from painting, I am back!

I dived right in and did a lot of research for Fingon's elves, the elves of Hithlum (a region in it)

The primary colors I came across included a lot of blues, silvers, and even small hints of gold.

Here is my latest painting creation.

Great painting, Feanorthenoldor. I'm looking forward to seeing your 1st age army painted!
Also, I hope you may reload the best among your photos, that are no longer visible.

Very nice! I agree, I'd like to see your older posts. Damn Photobucket, screwed up so many forums.

Preview of what's to come.

Here's a hint:
"But now a cry went up, passing up the wind from the south from vale to vale, and Elves and Men lifted their voices in wonder and joy. For unsummoned and unlooked for Turgon had opened the leaguer of Gondolin, and was come with an army of ten thousand strong, with bright mail and long spears like a forest."

Your NMM armour and your cloaks are absolutely superb.

Post subject:  Re: Feanorthenoldor's 1st age schemed elven Army

thanks guys,

yeah, NMM has been something i've been working on for the past few years. It's slowly getting better and better. The hardest part is not really the blending, but the realization of where the light hits on the armor and how to make it look like armor.

Looks good! The blending on the cloak is excellent!
Your NMM has really improved over the years, it's been fun keeping up with your progress. Keep up the good work!

@PowerofWill. Thanks! I can say the same about you as well!

So, I decided to move onto Fingolfin's house. Colors of this house consisted of Royal Blue's, silvers, small amounts of gold, black and white. This is my painted interpretation of his armored bodyguard.
