Banner looks terrific. Head is fine this way - that's how prefer to see Gondorians!

That banner is 10 times better than the original. I'm glad you found my advice useful. Good work!

Hello everybody,

I took the conversion to a new level and replaced it completetly. I started and actually finished a scratch sculpt of the banner bearer and with the feedback of Dave and Mally I got it to a stage that I am very pleased with! Thanks to you guys!

Image

If you click on the pictures you'll end on the Skirmisher website, where you can click on the pictures in original size!

Image

The head is from eBob miniatures, but otherwise the miniature is completely self sculpted and will be cut up to be sent to the casters over the next couple of days.
I also got the berserker on friday and just want to say thanks to Mally again, it looks even better than on the pictures, if you haven't seen it yet, click here!!

C&C highly appreciated as always!

Cheers,
Bennet

Thanks for the kind words Bennet, it is always my pleasure to help.
I am pleased I have been able to help on the new sculpt, it really does look wonderful. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

You can feel the strong breeze whipping that banner. That is a superb sculpt/conversion! Oodles of character. You can just hear him directing troops.

Belting looking sculpt you got there, love the sense of movement to get from the banner.

Excellent sculpting work! :yay: The plate and vambraces look hard, the cloth looks soft and realistic. The proportions look pretty good and the banner is just amazing! The pose is also really good. Dynamic and action-filled!
The sculpt looks very professional. I think GW has actually released worse sculpts.

The only thing that might be improved next time, if you don't mind, is perhaps the chain mail on the arms. It also now seems the the chain mail on the right arm lies over the plate.
But, I only notice this if I'm being super critical, it is a beautiful sculpt overall and I cannot do it as well as you! 8)

Keep up the great work!

I like the sculpt, but the banner, as in the actual square piece of cloth.. that's just a work of art. Comes to life even more on this pose, at the angle.. looks terrific.

Think? Think?! Plastic Wood Elves, Black Númenóreans, Gundabad Blackshield Shaman, Shade.. no reason to merely think, as I know that statement to be true. :P

Hello everybody,

thank you very much for all your nice comments, highly appreciated!

Koen, you are right, and because I also got some critique over on the HdR Tabletop Forum I reworked the miniature again.
I mainly bulked out the torso and head, cut the miniature to pieces for casting and reworked those parts. The last thing I'll do will be to sand down the feet a bit from those big blocks.

Click on the collage to see it in full size.

Image

Here is a picture with the banner held to the model. I wrote an article about how I sculpted it, the technique is actually very easy. Is there any interest in me translating the article for the Tomes of Wisdom?

Image

Here are the multiple parts of the model, apparently I had to do it in that many parts for the best results, that's what the caster told me. It's a nightmare to cut your own model apart...

Image

Thank you very much, C&C very welcome!

Cheers,
Bennet

Exciting times mate, I hope the casting goes to plan. Everything looking good to me.
Hopefully I will have my EFGT to a near completion before I get this so Ivan crack straight into it

Ah yes, this is fantastic! It's even better than before. And yes, this is exactly what I meant, now it looks perfect and very realistic! :yay:

Simply amazing!

Very interested in the casts.. ;) I don't want to imagine what it must be like to cut up your own sculpt though..!

Thank you very much for the nice comments!
I am not sure whether I'll cast this miniature now because of Copyright reasons, I might just give the original sculpt away... :(
My next project therefore had to be a miniature with my own design, which I can definitely cast. I personally really like the Knights of Dol Amroth, but I think that the helmets are way oversized and the armour is too much plate for my imagination of Tolkien's works.

Here is the beginning of my own Swan Knight, the pose is different from my concept but I am very pleased with it overall, especially with the head and the chest plate. What do you guys think?

After a long break of making videos I decided I would document the entire progress of this miniature in daily 15 minute videos. I have filmed nearly the entire work I have done on it so far (exept times when the camera was in the way or out of battery) and have already uploaded two videos, the next one is going to come today. Here you can find the playlist on YouTube!

Image

I hope you like the miniature and find the videos helpful!

Cheers,
Bennet

Damn shame about that cast, I bet your gutted.
But never look back, always forward and this new sculpt is looking nice. The pose looks good, you dont see that many in motion, tend to be a lot of heroic poses, so that's a great bonus.
The skirt flows nicely.
I know it's early days and may be the photo but just check the proportions on the head, that it fits the body, I'm getting the feel of it being a tad small.
One other thing, he has his shield in his right hand and sword hanging to his left, which hand gets the sword out ? If you see what I mean.
If that's intended then fine. A option would be to put the shield on his left hand and have him holding a sword in his right at 90 degree to his hand i.e. Pointing upward.

nice swan knight, i love the huge shield and scabbard. Makes him look stronger :D
the mail armour is quite thick, smaller holes would be better but it can go trough like this. Excellent sculpting.
