Hi everyone.

So I joined the forums yesterday and noted in my introductory post that I would like to start a WIP. So…here it is. I've been in the hobby for 5 years and am a collector and painter who has both "army standard" and "display standard"

I'll begin with some photos of my work from the past couple of months and then what I am doing at the moment.

So this is the old Radagast the Brown model which, after the new Radagast mini came out, I decided to paint up purely as a big display model.

Image
Old metal Warg Rider. Not totally happy with the rider himself but not sure.

Image
Lastly of my slightly less recent stuff. Merry and Pippin in armour. Great fun to paint. :-D

So on to my most recent work. Mirkwood Rangers. I got these 2 done on Christmas Eve and am currently working on the one with the hood and mask. You can expect an update on him soon.

Apologies for the post length. C & C most welcome! :)

Nice rangers! What's your recipe on those greens and browns?

Thanks! :D Here's a pretty detailed run-through:

Brown Cloth:
Base Rhinox Hide
Highlight and paint the leafy lines Doombull Brown
Highlight further with Skrag Brown

Brown armour (central scale things):
Base Rhinox Hide
Highlight Gorthor Brown
Highlight sparingly Ushabti Bone

Green Boots and vambraces:
Base Castellan Green
Wash Thraka Green (Biel-Tan Green?)
Highlight Loren Forest
Highlight Elysian Green

And then for the dark green which is on the quivers and central, armoury area (this will be used for the main cloth area for half the minis in the box as well, I use:
Base Caliban Green
Highlight Loren Forest
Wash Thraka Green
Highlight Elysian Green

The difference in the two greens isn't as noticeable in the photos because the dark one is on very small areas but I'm sure it will be more noticeable when used on the main cloth.

Hope this helps! :)

The first Elf Rangers I have seen, apart from GWs, very nicely done. Look forward to seeing more of your work

Welcome to the One-Ring!
Beautiful painting and basing work - you really should enter the painting competitions. We have a really good bunch of painters plus some excellent sculptors and converters.

Thanks guys. Really encouraging to hear. I do intend to enter the painting competitions but probably not next month as I don't have any monsters that need painting and it looks as though that will be the chosen category. I'll see though - perhaps Beorn the Bear shall be released in time :)

Welcome to the One Ring.
Fantastic standard you have here, very worth the watch. I think Radagast is my favourite, great work.

Beautiful work. I'm a little worn out on Elves at the moment (I'm currently painting the old Wood Elves), but you've done a fantastic job on these.

These latest photos are much better as well. They're bright enough to see all of the detail work you've done!

Brilliant painting. This could be the front cover of any article on them.
I agree with a comment Harfoot made on another thread, the elves do benefit from a slight sheen to their clothing.

@Erunion - yeah after taking the new photos, I noticed just how dark the others were. Still not got a proper, really good way of taking photos (I've been meaning to make the milkjug lightbox but just still haven't got round to it). I think I'm going to take a group photo once the first 5 or so are done on a piece of terrain.

@Fariagorn - thanks

@Gandlaf - thank you! :D

Really like the stark highlights on the masked ranger; makes for a very nice-looking miniature.

I did not care for the models until I saw how you painted them. Well done!

I'm in the same boat regarding miniature photography. I don't have a good setup to use, and this keeps me from taking very many photos. I may have to try one of those milkjug lightboxes as well.
