Ha ha, yeah, they do! I really like how you painted them. Very different, but quite striking.

I just can't bear to pay shipping for them. If you could order them in to your local store, that would probably make the case for me to score Khamul anyway. I don't have his original version either. I'm still trying to round out my named ringwraiths v 1 collection in metal. Some of those sculpts are really cool and I like the background that some of them got. Nice inspiration to build a warband around.

Thanks, I painted them to match my Necromancer.

Regarding shipping and Forgeworld, Forgeworld has opened up a warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee for shipping to the US and Canada - they are offering free shipping for orders over $120USD or local equivalent through Sept. 30th. Figures are still expensive but shipping is cheaper.

I didn't know that, that's really great news. I wish I would've known sooner; I just bought a mumak off ebay and would've liked the one with the upgrade pack instead.

I had just painted the helmets and armor on my third batch when I caught this on my camera - they looked like they were ready to go and fight even though I hadn't finished painting them yet. Good luck, they don't have eyes yet.

Finished my third batch of the Gondor Garrison - swordsmen. If I can stay off ebay I should be able to finish my last batch soon.

Done to my tabletop standard.

Agreed! I really like all these conversions, and they also seem very sensible - I imagine that both heavy plate armor and black cloth would be quite a bad idea in a desert.

I would maybe try to do some kind of weathering effect on the shields, however. In a desert environment with dry and dusty air I don't imagine them staying pitch-black for very long - they look too clean. But maybe I am overthinking things  They do look good as they are.

Qwertz8 - the shields are newly issued to them so they haven't had a chance to scuff them up yet. :-)

Thanks for the suggestion, I dry brushed very lightly some steel legion drab on them to tone them down some and they do blend in better.

Under the statue of an ancient king, Gondor sets up a garrison while the main outpost is being built.

Finished the last four of the garrison, Beregond and three Citadel Guards. Didn't use a wash on their cloaks, keeping them white.

Image

Awaiting their commander, the patrol rides out to escort him in.

Beautiful! I really like the style. Looks very realistic and believable for a southern Gondorian occupation force. :yay:

Well, hey, some of that looks familiar!

Are the horses Warlord Games? I bought a raft of them to mount up my metal KoMT a while back. It's a shame they discontinued their sprues program, I was hoping they would add to it. Nice horses, I like that you can paint facial markings on them, unlike the standard versions.

Yup, the very same. Some are GW LOTR horses with the armor on their heads scrapped off to match.

Map, If I send you more horses, will you pass some on to our friend up North. I have plenty to spare. PM me your address, again.
Great K, These are metal horses, not plastic. You'll be pleased with them.

Cave Dragon - thanks! I did have some hesitancy about the tan when I saw them all from the back and the tan cloaks - it looked like a bunch of Tusken Raiders from Star Wars!

Received some more metal horses from Nevinsrip that matched the rest of my mounted Gondorian troops so I completed my commander that I wanted to lead the Gondor Outpost.

Image

Prior to becoming steward, Denethor had served in the Gondorian army. In my vision, one of those postings had been in southern Gondor as the commander of a remote outpost.

Image

Image

I had bought off of Ebay several of the metal mounted Theoden figures with no horses with the idea of using them for conversions.

For the conversion of Theoden to Denethor;

I switched heads, shaved the Rohan themes off of Theoden, had a mold of the Gondor shields that I had made and filled with liquid green stuff. Taking that molding I cut it down to size and pressed it onto the breast plate for the White Tree motif. For the sword I cut off Theoden's guard and blade and replaced it with a Aragorn blade. In the Lord of the Rings Weapons and Warfare book I have it mentioned that Denethor's blade guard was in the crescent shape vs the traditional cross shape so I bent the ends up.

Still not sure about the shield, might replace it with a fancier one but can always rationalize that at this stage in his career, he carried a standard shield.

With the mounted part of my outpost complete, changed my bookshelf display while I make my outpost.

Very nice and convincing conversion. Perhaps for the shield you could use gold for the metal to make it stand out somewhat? I seem to recall seeing Gondorian shields with gold decorations in some behind the scenes photos from the movies.
