Hi all,

It will likely be at least a week until I can get started on my armies, and at least a month until I post any finalised shots of miniatures, but for now I will upload this post as motivation to keep me on track.

The armies I will spend the summer on are:
Gundabad:
Bolg ft and mtd
Azog ft and mtd
12 hunter orcs ft and mtd
12 fell wargs
18 gundabad orcs with spear
18 gundabad orcs with sword and shield
2 gundabad orc captains
4 gundabad trolls
4 gundabad ogres
6 gundabad berserkers

Champions of Erebor:
all of them of course :P

Thranduil's Halls:
Thranduil on Elk
Legolas ft and mtd
tauriel

The White Council:
New Hobbit box set with all 4
Gandalf the Grey

Grey Company:
Aragorn ft and mtd (about 4 or 5 ft)
Gimli (4 or 5 ft again)
Legolas (likewise)
Arathorn
Halbarad
Halbarad with Banner and Horn
12 Grey company
King of the dead
9 metal warriors of the dead

Fellowship:
almost all poses of all of them, bar the breaking of the fellowship, the three hunters, and the death of gothmog.

Dwarves
2 dwarf kings
about 8 khazad guard
16 metal warriors

Moria
Balrog with whip (metal)
Goblin drum
Shaman
two captains
about 24 of the old metal moria goblins
and the old watcher in the water tentacles

Mordor
Witch king on fell beast (metal)
Ringwraith on fell beast (metal)

Misc.
escape from goblin town
arwen with frodo vignette
theoden's speech vignette
riddles in the dark vignette
tom bombadil and goldberry (both loose and vignette)
hundreds of old lotr figures that I can't keep track of.

I expect to be able to start on the gundabads soon, and will likely follow up with the champions of erebor and the moria army, followed by the grey company army. The rest will be interspersed throughout.

send help pls.

Regards
Frodo

Hi Frodo - word of advice for you, just take it piece by piece and don't let the size of your pile of unpainted models overwhelm you. There are literally dozens of us here on the site who have similar size backlogs, with hundreds of models waiting for their turns on the painting table, and as most of us can attest, at times you can get somewhat discouraged by the amount of models that are unpainted, sealed up and sitting in a box in our closets. There's even a thread here on the site called the "Backlog Reduction Oath" where members pledge to reduce their backlog and not acquire new models until they paint some of what they have - there's even a monthly scoreboard where people posted lists of what they painted each month !

Your current approach is a sound plan - pick one army and have at them and enjoy. Don't worry about what else you have to paint, just focus on the ones right in front of you at that moment, and take your time and make them look great ! Another tip is to write down your paint schemes/colors/palettes for each type of warrior or hero that you paint, that way, if you acquire more of that same type in the future - say more Gundabad warriors - you'll have your exact paint scheme ready and they will all look uniform.

Lastly, you may want to consider starting a Trade list here on the site. You may be able to swap some of the volume of your backlog of models in exchange for some individual models that you might be looking for.

Good luck and enjoy :)

Hi guys,

thanks for the comments, and especially the advice Ja33. I have written up guides for myself for the Gundabad orcs, and the Moria Goblins, as per your advice. I have also prepared all the finecast (I hate this material so much for spears) Gundabad minis for painting.

On top of that, I have painted the Theoden Vignette and the Riddles in the Dark vignette in my spare time while revising for uni exams, as well as the Balrog, and several other models. Unfortunately, I have also added to my backlog with the purchase of enough models to run pretty much every scenario in the Scouring of the Shire, the main trilogy Journeybooks, and a lot of other sourcebooks.

As I fly home from uni on the 26th, I will probably be able to upload photos on the 27th.
