Da Grand Waaagh, the first multi-system independent Grand Tournament in the Bay Area is coming next month. We’re looking to have a great event and make it bigger and better next year as well. Part of that goal is to include Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game as part of that tournament. This will be a part of the Games Workshop Grand Tournament Circuit for Lord of the Rings, which includes The Gathering in the Desert, Adepticon, and The Necronomicon among others.

The challenge with any event like this is getting enough people excited about it to make it happen. So to that end myself and Wyn Robertson, in cooperation with several local game stores, will be running a series of tournaments to help people get ready for the event! There will be eight lead-up events over the next year starting at 300 points and going to 600 points, which will give you a chance to build your army gradually and provide lots of opportunities to practice your game.

Plus, we’ll be crowning an overall series champion, taking each player’s single best score from the 300 point round, the 600 point round, and the Grand Tournament itself.

The events will be held in the following months – keep an eye on your local store forums plus the EastBayGames and SouthBayLOTR Yahoo! Groups for updates and more specific event information. These times are tentative and subject to change – it’s a long way out for some people to plan!

ROUND 1 - 300 Points

October – Endgame in Oakland

November – Game Kastle in Santa Clara

January 2010 – Powers of the North Game Club in Cotati

February – Gamescape North in San Rafael

ROUND 2 – 600 Points

May – Powers of the North

June – Endgame

July – Game Kastle

August – Gamescape North

GRAND TOURNAMENT – October!

If you have any questions about the events, please post them here or on the SouthBayLOTR Yahoo! Group. I’m extremely excited about the upcoming events and the prospects for a fantastic Grand Tournament in 2010!
