It is fall (autumn) where I am at right now, which means leaves changing colors and dropping to the ground waiting to be raked. :D

I still had some miniature autumn birch trees that I had used for my window sill project so I though I would put some of those colorful leaves to a better purpose. I collected some of different colors from different trees, dried them using my food dehydrator, and then crumbled them up and sifted them. Looks like I might need some more yellow in the batch but now I have a bag of autumn ground cover to spread on bases.

Oh wow, that's very cool!

An autumn themed Warmaster Wood Elf army is on my incredibly long to-do list, maybe a decade from now ha ha.

Meanwhile, in Calgary where we've had 100 km/h winds, we can only dream of fall colours. They will look great on your scenery.

GreatKhan - Did the Calgary area get hit by all the wildfires that Canada had this year? Or were they mostly west of the Rockies?

Wish I had thought of drying out the leaves earlier, having to pick some reds off of the trees, once they get to the ground they tend to rot too quick. I do have the dehydrator going full time now to build up a decent amount to be able to use.

I just found these punches that will make for even nicer bases, I think:

Feanor - those look great! Will look into them for use with next years "crop" of autumn leaves.

Added some dried leaves to my window sill project.

I like the green stuff world punches. These are colored paper.

Did you treat the leaves with glycerin?

Yes and no. The big wildfires were in BC, but we had a number of grassfires in late October. One was across the street from Acme, the town where I work. (Yes, there really is a town called Acme. The town sign says "Acme: A name you can trust". It makes me smile every day.) Fortunately, they were able to use tractors to till a break to keep it from spreading into town. Just north of Calgary, there was a big fire that destroyed a house. Now there is snow on the ground, so everything is good.

I'm happy to see those punches. I knew I'd seen them somewhere, but I couldn't remember where!

You don't need a dehydrator to dry things out. Just open your oven door a bit and set it to the lowest setting and go to town. This also works great for getting bread to rise in the winter, just cover with a moist tea towel or grease top of dough ball so it doesn't dry out first.

Holy smokes! Those are amazing LastSword! I've seen people use birch seeds before, and they look great, but we don't have those where I live, so I will probably have to use the paper punch idea.

This just reinforces my quest for a birch tree. GreatKhan - that is a dangerous site you referenced, quite a rabbit hole I will now fall down.
