There are still those who play WOTR, but with the change in prices over the past eight years it will not attract newcomers. I run a WOTR scenario at every wargame convention I attend and always get plenty of players.

Here's an alternative take on the Abrakhan Guard/Golden King:

The Golden Company of Abrakhan Legendary Formation (115pts + 35pts per company)
One to Nine companies

Two-handed weapons

Special Rules:
Chop: Abrakhan Merchant Guards do not receive the -1 penalty to their Fight Value for wielding two-handed weapons.
The Golden Hoard: Each time an enemy formation or Hero within 12” of the Golden King (measure the distance from the Golden King model) must take a courage test, the Golden King may attempt to bribe them. The controlling player may choose to use this rule. If so, roll a D6. On the roll of a 5+, the enemy’s courage is treated as 2 lower than it is due to being bribed. On the roll of a 1, the enemy’s courage is instead treated as 1 higher due to strength of resolve.

Well, I'll have the WotR profiles for all the Hobbit There and Back Again book done up as soon as I'm able to get it done, it doesn't matter what Forgeworld has released yet, in fact, at the rate of release, I'll have the houresrules up before everything is released. So that as well as the above stuff, there's also the Nazgul and Laketown Heroes and Goblin Mercs and so on, though I'm struggling to think of how to do the Dol Guldur Nazgul, I think all as one Legendary formation but not sure.
I'm also going to rearrange all the Hobbit stuff to match the newer arrangement as soon as I'm able, which will incorporate the new stuff organically.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to do any playtesting, feel free and get back to me with your thoughts.

Since Gothmog appears to have taken a leave of absence (he hasn't been on the forum in almost a year), I have decided to use my newly acquired There and Back Again book to try to add some profiles of my own. For you consideration:

Thranduil's Guard 150 points + 75 points per company Legendary Formation One to Six Companies

Each company is equipped with glaives, Mirkwood Bows, and shields.

Special Rules: Expert Riders, Pathfinders (Master), Stalwart, Terror.
Elk Charge: As long as Thranduil is alive, the company's Strength increases by +1 and they make an Unstoppable Charge on a 4+.
Mirkwood Bows: The finely-crafted bows of Thranduil's personal guard are treated as longbows with a range of 48".

Mirkwood Elf Regiment 60 points per company Common Formation One to Six Companies

Great Bulk: Gundabad Orges receive +3 Attacks when charging instead of +6.

Dragon Sickness: At the start of the game, the Evil player selects one Hero or Epic Hero in his army to be the bearer of a large sum of gold. If the Master’s formation is in combat with this Hero or his formation, the Master must pass a courage test or automatically lose the fight, counting as disordered.
Dubious Counsel: Alfrid may choose to expend any number of Might points at the start of the Priority phase. For each point spent, select a Hero or Epic Hero within 6”. On the roll of a 2-5, the hero gains a Might point, on the roll of a 6, the Hero gains D3 Might points, on the roll of a 1, the Hero loses D3 Might points and Alfrid gains D3 Might points.
