Hello!

This is my first post here. I played WotR back when it first came out, but switched to the warhammers with my gaming group.

Now I am looking to get back into the game on a budget and am considering using 10mm armies. Has anyone here tried using a smaller scale of miniatures? If so what were the results if the change if scale?

I have played some games in HO/00 scale, with 1" = 1 cm. The game works perfectly and it's even better, for you gain in both room and money. The only thing you really lose as scale diminishes, of course, is spectacularity.

Thanks for the reply! That is what i was hoping to do as well, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. The end goal of my group is to play a map campaign starting with the Battle of Five Armies and running til one side wins the
War of the Ring. Running the game in the smaller scale with a few mods for speeding up the game will make for large battles that don't take a weekend and a gymnasium to play.

Well, I used a mix from various sources:

- Caesar and Dark/Light Alliance fantasy;
- medievals from Strelets and Zvezda;
- counters-figurines from War of the Ring ARES boardgame (and expansion);
- large monsters picked from here and there.

Caesar and Dark/Light Alliance figurines are excellent, and the latter provides an interesting range of different boxes. Caesar boxes are mostly out of production, yet somehow still available.

What size movement trays did you use for your games?

Ah, so your scale is, in fact, mostly 1:72 instead of a bit smaller 00 at 1:76 (or the even smaller H0 at 1:87). Makes sense - thanks for the info. I was curious as I would love to have tolkienish figures in true H0 for my model railroad project.

Same as standard WoTR, but in cm rather than in inches. I obtained them by cardboard sheets.
The problem is, HO/1:72 figurines have a precarium equilibrium, moreover their own bases are drastically different from each other. I didn't find anything better than using vinilic glue for fixing them to the trays and secure playability to the game...
Hope you may find out a more effective solution.

These 10mm miniatures might 'coincidentally' be very useful for you! ;)

Look at those patterns on the shields! Remind you of something..? :)

I bought some of these a few years ago, and I really like them. I have not yet played a game with them, but I intend to use 2 infantrymen on a 15mm base as Army Markers for a Map Campaign.

As for using them in WotR, I think it would work very well. Just scale down the bases and all ranges with a factor that you think is convenient, and there you go! It will be much easier to manage these armies. Only think that you will need to add, is dice to indicate casualties.
Or, what you could do, is represent 1 infantry company by 8 of those stands (arranged 2x4)! That way, the base size might be very similar actually, but now the armies would look much more massive and overwhelming!
