Do they have to be GW models? I'd like to enter some Perries I still need to paint for the testing of my Game of Thrones ruleset.

No not at all bud. They can be from any model supplier. My entry in the last challenge was made by harlequin miniatures.

Here is my entry Mordor.

Ringwraith (2nd hand hopefully you can see a difference once finished) 3 orcs-spear, 3 orcs-shield, 2 orcs-twohanded, 2 orcs-bow, orc-shield+spear, orc drummer. I plan to change the paint scheme for the painted orcs.

Hopefully I can enter 12 orcs+captain.

Unbelievable... think I count 22 entries so far. Made a start on my goblins - update in the WIP thread, guess I'm going to have to compete with farmer maggot who's warband is composed rather similarly to mine ;)

Well I'm making no promises but I have been looking for an excuse to get these riders of the dead done for quite a while. It's been well over a year since I painted a lotr figure unfortunately.

Fantastic conversion work ukfreddybear, though I suspect the angle from which we see the two front horses appears, er, well perhaps a little unfortunate!

Making slow progress... I really struggle to paint at any kind of productive speed! Help!
Image

I just decided seeing as my blondness doesn't permit very visible facial hair I will participate in Movember vicariously through my noble and socially aware Warriors of Minas Tirith!

I have admired your painting in the past and I am sure that these will be brilliant when done, But I am surprised that you have not sprayed them with a black undercoat! Are you painting them silver and then inking the shadows?

Yes Bilbo, you've got it. I have to force myself to keep it simple or I'll spend all week on one model. The lighting's a bit dark and I need to get a new fine detail brush for the eyes but one down...

Thanks Dom- I've read your blog in the past. Some great stuff there!

Unfortunately I didn't take any WIP images. But the process wasn't too complicated.

I started with regular Riders of Rohan, and removed everything above the belt. I cut out little bits of paper to the size I wanted for the chain mail skirts on the horses and men, and then used them as a template to cut out the right size piece of greenstuff. I let the greenstuff semi-cure before i work it, and then use the end of a dental tool for the chain mail pattern. Then I used a colour shaper to define the borders.
Always with greenstuff I roll it out, using two thick pieces of card to roll against, so I get an even thickness, and use oil on my rolling surface and on the paintbrush I use as a makeshift rolling pin ;).

Above the waist they are Wargames Factory's Viking Huscarls, and i used a similar technique for measuring out the size of cloak I wanted. I'm not very good with greenstuff, so I tried to lay it out with the folds i wanted rather than trying to work them in afterwards- that always results in my stretching it out of shape too much. Afterwards I did add a few "high" points and folds in the cloth applying small greenstuff "sausages" and working in the edges to the main cloak. This was all after the main cloak had fully cured though.
I used Pro-create (gray) for the fur on one of the SoE's cloaks, as it's less elastic than greenstuff, and not quite as sticky. For me it's easier to sculpt a fur pattern on it. I kind of wish I'd used it for the cloaks and horse barding as well actually, but I've got a mass of greenstuff to get rid of!

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but with no WiP pictures I didn't think this warranted a thread of its own.

I appreciate this is not a completely unpainted pic but I forgot to take one beforehand and I don't plan on winning anyway. Have to get these guys done for an upcoming game - 12 Warriors of Erebor.

Going to get a simple basecoat and wash done, and these will be my first properly based models ever. Exciting! Can't wait for a game full of minis I painted myself.
