The big daddy project has finally arrived :D

I look on this with pure awe, got part way down and saw that not only is the finished piece beautiful the damn plans are out of this world as well.
I would bow very low but I feel that would not be enough.

Ok enough sucking up now...

I hope that these plans help some of the other members in attempting this terrain feature, To Dagorlad and all others who have attempted (and suceeded) in creating this piece I salute you.

It almost, makes me want to move to Australia just so I could play a game on this terrain.

What an awesome result, best Weathertop I've seen so far I think (appart from the one in the movie...)

Naaa Bart... this one is even better than the movie one! :wink:

Amazing work, the final piece is outstandig and far better than most of the other Weathertops around.

The article itself is most excellent., easy to follow and full of step-by-step piccies.

An amazing article, that reflects the same effort and attention that went into the project itself. When I read the line "If you'd rather paint the latest Legolas...." I felt my stomach sink. I am currently painting a Legolas model (though not the latest one, whew!), and I certainly am daunted by the sort of task described here.

I did, however, read the entire article. Nay, "devoured" it, more like. What a mammoth achievement! I purchased the Forgeworld "half-weathertop", and haven't even had the guts to paint it. To actually build one is incredible. What's more, I think this looks better than the "off the shelf" varieties. It's unique, for one thing, and that's always nice.

I stand in awe of this piece, and cannot understand how it has a rating of only 8.75 as I type this. Somebody surely made a mistake. It's 1 = worst, 10 = best, people! :)

I said it before and I will say it again: fantastic piece, with all kinds of fine details that add to the whole atmosphere. Like a good painting, you look at it and every time you see something you had not noticed before.

Thank you all for the praise, I am glad you enjoyed reading it. I started writing the article in August, before I finished the model, and it has taken me months to actually complete it. So its very welcome to hear that people think it is good.

@bombadil - CorelDraw is a drawing program for computers - I use it a lot when designing models, but there are many other programs that are just as good (or better), such as Illustrator, AutoCAD etc.

The plans are included in the article as illustrations. They are all to scale and measurements are given either on the diagrams or in the text itself. As it happens, I did intend providing a series of templates that you could download, but I had a problem with the file three days ago and lost almost everything, so scratch that idea.

The one thing (not one ring), about this hobby is the amount of rubbish articles dotted all around various sites.
However, if you bide your time, eventually, one comes around that just blows the socks off all the others.

Well, what can I say. I had many discussions with Alan as he was making this beauty and was privvy to the updates and pictures as the whole thing was being built.
But to see the whole thing in one amazing article is just a pleasure to the eyes and will make enjoyable reading on those boring days.

In typical 'Dagorlad' fashion, you have gone that extra yard by ensuring that everything is as detailed as it can be Alan.

Truly the 'Lord of the Terrain'

it is an excellent article and i love the vallego colour list.
it's funny when you see how others have done things, the pillar is sure alot simpler to build than i thought.

A great article that will surely help produce some more stunning weathertops!

Well, as said, it's the best Wheatertop, definitely. I't almost up to the quality of the miniature they build for the movies, without any flaws!

I like how you painted it with khaksi and brown instead of the usual grey, that's how it should look. I can imagen it would be great fun gaming in it, with all the stairs and pillars so detailed.
I could sure use some of those leafs, not avaliable in Sweden, for my own dioramas!

Perfection, as Brian said, the Dagorlad touch.

Thats really the best weathertop guide I've ever seen. The guide is very highly detailed. And the endprodukt looks so fantastic. Very good work. Very good!
