An interesting article in one of the newspaper websites today, based on the theory that this may have been the inspiration for the Ring of Power. Tolkein was researching this ring 2 years before he began writing his tales.

I like the idea. A bit like Tutenkhamun's Curse but on a smaller scale.

Hmmmmm I saw that article too. It's interesting to think that Tolkien's literary efforts might have been directly influenced by this.

I imagine there are few authors who brains are not 'seeded' with ideas in some way so perhaps there is an element of truth in this article.

Fascinating story, not least the link to the curse tablet dedicated to Nodens at a time when I thought Christianity prevailed.

And to think, it was hidden here in the (hamp)shire underneath my very nose, yet I did not have the wit to see it.

Is it too far to go from Nodens to Noldor ?

Suddenly that line from 'The Life of Brian' comes to mind: 'What have the Romans ever done for us?'
And at the back of the room, deep in the shadows, a voice says 'The Precioussss!'
