Post subject:  Help improve my Uruk Hai Force (500 points SBG)

Recently I've been using the following 500 point Uruk Hai Force:

UH Captain w HA and shield
Sharku w shield

4 Warg Riders w shield
3 Beserkers
1 UH w banner
6 UH Crossbows
8 UH w shields
6 UH w pikes
6 Orcs w spears

36 models. 5 Might

So far I've got a major victory and a draw both playing domination, in the first game I was lucky with the end game allowing me to grab the final objective, while in the second I was less lucky with the gaming ending immediately on me breaking my opponent.

How who you guys suggest improving the list? Does it seem well rounded enough to succeed in other scenarios?

Thanks

If you can squeeze in a couple more Warg Riders that would be great, but otherwise it looks deadly.

I could replace the banner with 2 wargs with bows and an extra beserker. So far the banner hasn't seemed that useful, but I like the character of it and think in certain scenarios it may have more impact, what do you think?

keep the banner if you can, i think they're very useful. is sharku mounted? if not you could use getting a hero to lead your cavalry charge perhaps?

Sharku has a warg as part of his basic equipment.

so he does, i swear i've seen a sharku on foot figure? is that my imagination or is he only for if the warg is killed?

The Sharku blister comes both foot and mounted. Yep, you need something for when the warg is killed.

Drop the pikes I would and get some more orc spears. With the extra points you can get some more warg riders and perhaps try and expand you uruk shield wall?

I find pikes to be one of the Uruk Hai's greatest advantages, 3 S4 attacks are pretty deadly and can deter even more elite enemy models from charging straight in.

I rarely deploy in a shield-wall, preferring a skirmish arrangement which means I am more mobile and quicker to react to enemy threats and in this arrangement without fear of being trapped by pikes I find them to be highly effective.

I don't think pikes would matter too much as you could get shield warriors instead and lots more cheap orc spearmen. Would you rather have few 3 attack groups or loads more 2 attack groups.

I could get 5 orcs and 3 shielded Uruks for the cost of the 6 pikemen, which gives me 1 less support than before or I could switch to 5 and 3 pikemen, gaining me 2 support but of a lesser quality. I might give both a try, but I only have 8 orc spearmen at present so I could do something along the lines of 2 extra spears, 2 warg archers and the rest of the points on UH and see how it goes.

I'm reluctant to completely drop pikes as I like to shield with some of my Uruks and then use the pikes to create openings, which I can then exploit. So I get 2 dice along the line from shielding and then 3 dice concentrated in one spot, forcing an opening and then pressing home this advantage. If I thin my support across the line I lose this advantage and gain only the possibility of an extra kill or two where I am no longer shielding. Against anyone with their own spear support 3 vs 2 can be invaluable, winning a combat and then allowing me to attack the spear support through this opening in their lines.
