Omg that dragon is sweet haha. That would look awesome having this guy attacking elves from the first age. Seems like a typical worm of Morgoth.

Thanks Feanorthenoldor, I'm glad you like him. :-D

LAG, thanks for the comments. However, I don't know what goblin town troll you're talking about. I was actually going for a color scheme that I saw many years ago, but couldn't find the picture for reference.
Any tips on how to improve on this "disaster", so you say?
Be careful how you word your comments. You might offend someone using words like that.

Now, I have a small update. :D :-D :D

Many years ago, I tried to make some terrain. At the time, I was very pleased with it. I never finished them, however. And over the years, as I made newer terrain and improved my skills, the older ones looked worse and worse. So, I finally decided to start working on them, now that I have time again.

Before pictures:

(Notice how many pieces it took to make one wall section)

After some work was done:

(I added rubble, windows, and more detailing.)

Image

Image

(I even covered those seems so it looks like one wall  )
Image

I've since added more plaster to cover the rubble mounds and will soon add the different sizes of grit (I might use dirt though) to make this look like rubble. Something similar to the Osgiliath diorama I have been working on. Speaking of which, I need to paint that...... :?

And here is another old terrain piece:

(I'm just going to make a new one. I don't think I can salvage this...)

So yeah! There you have it! I will continue to work on things and hopefully remember to take pictures. I've been going on a terrain building spree these past couple of weeks. Not all of it is LotR related, but it's still the same hobby! Till next time!!

Here we have my Gollum I painted up for the competition. I wanted to use some kind of water affects on the base, but I don't have the proper materials. I tried white glue but it didn't do what I thought it would. Tips?

I just got two packages today! :D I haven't been able to do much in Middle Earth but I've done some. I'm excited to show you a model I got from Hero Forge that will be used to represent a particular elf. Pics will come tomorrow when I'm not at work.

Till then!

The terrain, especially the ruin, looks very promising! Can't wait to see it done. :)
Wondering what this package is all about too!

I forgot that I had a picture of the model that I got. Hero Forge took this image of the model I created using their website and 3D printed it. I'll have to take a picture of the actual model when I get the chance. The details on it are very crisp and the size of the model fits very well with Lord of the Rings models.

Here she is! I wanted a model to represent Aredhel from the earlier age. Apparently she is an elf princess that hunts with a bow or something. I should do more research on her.

Till next time!

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I've been busy with Tyranids, but I have come back to Middle Earth, to finish some work. First off, I've decided to work a bit on my elves, since (as you may notice) the white cloth is very smudgy and not smooth. I'm still playing around with them but here is a contrast before and after a wash.

Image

Image

I've also added some paint to my ruins. I wanted them to look dirty and moss-covered.

I did some sculpting on the Witch-king's left hand, since it was originally a right-hand.

Image

I had extra greenstuff so I remembered that I wanted to add extra hair to my elven princess model. So I did that. :-D

Hopefully I will be updating more often, though I am in college and time is very limited. C&C is most welcome! Thanks for looking!

Can anyone give me some tips on NMM? I tried it out on my ringwraiths, but it just doesn't look right. There seems to be too much white. I'll post a picture when I get back home later today.

I might have the wrong type of medium for mixing with the paint because it doesn't make the paint thinner like if I were to add water.

First of all, don't believe that nmm is everything as many people think. It is good only if you make it in the correct spot, except if you are making for fun. It takes time to master but after doing this I think that I use it vary rare.

But here is a great video with all the info:

Ruins look great, the green does help it look aged and dank.

For nmm, I have read a few tutorials and own the miniature mentor video on it. You really need to have a piece that has enough metal that your efforts show, and pick your viewers perspective to aim the light at. It can look great, but can take a lot of time to get it blended to a good level. Even then you risk it looking like grey instead of silver. Gold tends to work better and is more forgiving. So o would look at cool mini or not articles page and also you tube search and you will find a lot to get you started. I suggest using more than one source to learn from because it will reinforce the information as well as give you more tips.

As far as water effects go, looking at your gollum, I tend to use clear epoxy resin as it really shines, takes a long time to dry but totally worth it in the end

Witch king looks pretty good. Try cropping your pics down a little more so we can see more model and less milk carton.
Brave Modrl choice for a first attempt a NMM. Respect!

That is a rugged looking gaming board - more texture and visual interest than the basic mats. I like it a lot!

Thanks for the comments guys! I really appreciate it. :)

I cropped the pictures. Are these better? The pictures are kind of small since I already resized them before I cropped them. Plus the lighting is bad too. I'll correct that for the next photos.

I am working on a small army for Kings of War, using my orcs and Uruk-hai for a small local game before a tournament in October. I'll take pictures to show you what I have in the works.

Thanks again for the kind words and advice. :)

Again, I've been absent from this site. :( :(
Guess that is what happens when you go to college...

I haven't been idle though. I just haven't taken photos lately. Earlier in October I had a tournament to get ready for, playing Kings of War using my LotR models. :-D The pictures will explain better.

The army I used in the tournament: The Wrath of Mordor!
Obviously it is mixed in with Isengard but playing as the "Orc" army made sense.
Image

Image

Image

Image

I decided to revisit the Undying and give him a bit of color and update his base to match all my others now that I have a standard style.

I also made another sword and hand for the hornblower, though it still needs green stuff and paint.
Image

Image

Painted up this guy for the tournament, though I didn't get to finish the base since I started it the night before.
Image

Image

Image

And this is a model from Hero Forge that was 3D printed based on a model I designed. You might see a resemblance to a certain girl... :-D
Image

Image

And this is a model I got just for entering the tournament.
His weapon is a bone... Might need to change that and use him as Dunland or wild men chief or something.
Image

I also won some other models though I haven't opened them yet to take pictures of them. I got the "Player's Choice" award and took 2nd in "Best Painted Army", mostly because I didn't finish some of the display/ movement bases. It's hard to finish much when school is taking up most of your time.

I wanted to take a before and after picture of the Uruk-hai that I finished for this army, because the bases and paint job were terrible before I worked on them! I was able to salvage them though without too much work. I don't have proper lighting to give it justice though, so I will have to wait till the end of the semester, which is in two weeks!

So that is it! I'll keep working on stuff, and when I remember to take pictures, I'll post them. :-D
Till next time!
