Hello again,

I'm just about to pull the old helm's deep table out of the shed. A couple house moves happened, but I still have it, and I'm looking at getting back "deep in it" soon.

Yeah Hasslefree do some good stuff. A few years back they went through some sort of emergency, or two, and I had to recover funds from them, but they are good folk and do some really great sculpts. I don't judge them by their worst year. Their Ragnar is so good. I don't know what to do about the two weapons for MESBG, but I figured that if I count a sword as a parrying shield, no one would care, unless I end up at some stringently corporate tournament. (haaahaha, unlikely)

So anyway, hello again, I hope to update in the next couple of weeks.

(Apparently there is a big budget Middle Earth TV series in the works, so it is delightful that that Tolkien IP and estate, with its authority over style choices, will be involved in this magical world moving forward. I'm late to realise the new edition and rules and support, but I'm going to get elbows-deep in it shortly.)

You will certainly want to invest in War in Rohan. It's got lots of great Helm's deep scenarios. If you need Rohirrim, you can't do much better than the Pelennor Fields set. Essentially, you get a free rule book with the models. The best part of that boxed set is that, especially for the good side, it progresses nicely into the War in Rohan book. Evil does need to invest in quite a few other models, namely the Isengard list. You can proxy the Morannon orcs for regular orcs in home games.

Hi,

I extracted the big Helm's Deep construction from the shed, and spent some time cleaning the dust and spiders off of it. I haven't done much, but blocking in some basic colours on some cavalry and Gandalf.

The big kid in me wanted to put my toys on the board for a pic. My phone is old, but anyway, here are a couple of images to get things rolling for my second wind.

Cheers.

That is some great-looking terrain! I enjoyed seeing these pictures and I think you should get some more Rohan and Uruk-Hai painted up to fill out that picture even more :) It will look amazing with even more models on it!

We all have that kid in us :D

Like they say "the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys"

Yes I need to get some Uruk Hai, but, I will be doing that later, probably a lot later, like after all this Rohan and Helm's Deep stuff is done. My friend who has a lot of Uruk Hai has moved away, so I guess I've added another project to the queue.

The statue of Helm Hammerhand arrived in the post today, but I think it is too big. Maybe if my Helm's Deep board was scaled larger it would be okay... but unexpectedly, this is twice the height I need. I'm a bit disappointment now.

In this picture you can see the pillar bits beside the stairs, which I had hoped would be the bases for the statues.

Eh, the search continues.
Cheers.

Um... hope this image link works to show the scale difference. (just an image of the courtyard found online)
