Post subject:  UKFB & Son - 40K Killakan & Weirdboy
Okay, so over the half term or spring break whatever you want to call it, I finished my AotD and Tyler finished his 5 Orks. Despite trying very hard to do the chequered pattern for his Evil Sunz after two or three attempts he conceded it was too hard for him and asked me to do it for him. So once again I helped him out.

He is really pleased with how they came out, and has since started on another 8.

Gone a bit heavy IMO with the metal drybrush on the swords and needs to work on his flat areas, when compared to the chainsaws which look better and have a lot more raised areas. I've said he can always tone it down a bit with a dark wash or two.

Still, he's leaps and bounds ahead of most of the kids older than him at GW so I'm very proud. :)

He's doing fantastic!

I agree with you on the drybrushing being too heavy on some of the swords but that's still some great painting!

Well done Tyler!

I really like the Terminator, it's better than I can paint marines, I've never been able to paint them.

The orks are really nice as well, great looking skin tones. 8)

I know the reason for that choice: Tyler reckons all firemen are Evil Sunz 'cos they drive shooty (well, they have water cannon!) big bright red trukks at high speed, so somewhere among those boyz is Tyler's interpretation (in WH40K context) of his admiration for his dad.
See - all those psychology courses I didn't take have paid off in the end.

Tyler thanks you all for your encouragement guys. 8)

Painting has temporarily been suspended whilst we assemble the figures he got for his birthday. There is a lot of work ahead of us. Altogether he now has:

In addition to this I also picked up the Macragge boxset from ebay so even more Marines, scenery and now a few Tyranids to do.

Tyler now fully understands the term 'backlog'. :lol:

One thing I liked about the WH40K and GorkaMorka Orks: take ANY vehicle, weld on armour, guns, ladders - anything really, give the whole thing a 'well-used' and battlefield salvage look, a few dents and scrapes, and off you go. Like Scrapheap Challenge but with even more noise.

No Rust Effects. Just some layering of Dwarf Bronze over Tin Bitz and Boltgun Metal. We don't have many new paints, but we do have almost all of the old ones.

Likewise: I am still using paints I bought 5 years ago; in my experience only metallic paints become unusable after a significant lapse of time.

I have Ghazza stashed in a box (along with a lot of other Orks). I consider them a 'fun' army. I love the customisation of vehicles, the madder the better.
