Yes, just the start within airbrush so far. Worked a zenithal black and white prime then what you see are the base coats. The purple is the new Warcolours range, purple 5. Good paints at rock bottom prices. |

Looks like the sort of model that would look good with a simple three-stage layer/highlight followed by well-placed washes to immitate grime or ooze. I had some Plaguebearers once, they're great fun to paint. Seeing a Glottkin painted as successfully as yours almost makes me want to dish out the 80-odd pounds and start my own.

More done to the face, used various colours to get some contrast, magenta, turquoise, dark blue, numerous greens and browns. I have also done the first tusks to see how they look.

Cheers Mig I'm loving this figure and how its coming together so far. There is so much detail to it that it almost defies belief. there will be a ton of updates to this beast, far more than anything else I've done as I want this as near to competition quality as I can get. Suffice to say to paint it will take me months. One of the biggest incentives me for is seeing the Yellow One spent three years on a piece and he is probably the best painter in the world, bar none. So if can take that long why not humble me ? I have already received some good feedback on CMoN on this and can say I have upped my level. The bigger figures clearly suit my style more and give me the opportunity to express my painting with different colours and techniques that 28mm do not allow. |

Just so you know I use 7-8 stages of shading and highlights, sometimes more. I think this gives a good transition. Furthermore, I really want to push myself with this, really really push myself to new levels and I think the bigger figures suit my style better. Heres an update Slowly working my way up the head but using a darker palette on this area. I have placed an eye in, there are to be several on this figure. I made it bloodshot to give it some life.

That's looking very impressive so far. By the way what do you think about the scale 75 paints? My p3 paints will need replacing soon and I'm looking for something different. As much as I like the colours I find the glossy finish very annoying and I hear the scale75 dry matte. |

Chris I love them. I have 7 sets now and what you see on the Glottkin is 95% Scale75. They dry perfectly Matt with vibrant colours. The greens are from the Orc and Goblin set with some unnatural flesh set. The paints have a translucent quality which makes them ideal for blending and glazing. I have just got the metal and alchemy steel set, they are the best metals I have ever used. The pigments are incredibly small and stand thinning without breaking up. I had been told by some stunning painters that they use Scale75 and in particular their metallics, regarded as the best in the business. I have the black and white set - makes black a lot easier to deal with. Wood and leather set, look at the wood on my EFGT diorama NMM gold and silver are great though my NMM gold now uses a different recipe. This was done using the NMM steel http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/sho ... post785389 I hear the flesh set is excellent. The downside,you have to shake the bottle like mad together them to mix properly before use. I will collect all the sets. They have just released a copper set which looks fascinating. First off, this guys is looking fantastic. As sad as it is that you are leaving the (small) lotr figure world, I can see your skill coming out in this larger piece. So the Scale 75 paints are excellent, how do the warcolour paints compare? |

I'm not leaving but I am finding my skill suits the bigger figures, I am also pushing myself toward competition standard. Historical and busts wi help this area. Warcolours then, good paints that have a longer drying time. They have an opaque quality to suit blending and glazing. They also do not separate from their medium so no bottle shaking, though I always do ! I have tested one of their metals prior to launch in a couple of months, these could be incredible. The copper is like new copper piping in a pot. They do take a little getting used to as they apply differently to other paints, but it is worth it. The purples on Glottkin are from their purple range and the White of the eye on top of the head is purple 1 which is a pale pink. Above all though they are good quality paints, VERY CHEAP. I ordered 6 pots and including delivery from Cyprus to UK was £9. I will look to doing a full review on my blog soon as I'm just working on details to start doing commission work. |

Thanks for the mini review of warcolours, the flat rate (super cheap) shipping is what makes warcolours so tempting for me. I am hoping to get back into the hobby yet, which may require replacing some old dry paints, and scale 75/warcolours seem to be the two top choices right now. |

I have been trying the loaded brush technique that MMS gave me the link for. It does help on these tusks as a starting point. I still need to perfect it as there was a bit more work to smooth the blend to what you see, but I am happy with the technique to keep at it. |
